The A-188-1 is a module equipped with a Bucket Brigade Device (BBD). The BBD allows for mix/feedback control of the delayed signal and the original signal. The delay clock can also be controlled via CV, and the CV and other audio signals can be switched between positive and negative phase using a toggle switch, resulting in even more varied sounds.

The delay clock frequency (and thus delay time) of the A-188-1 varies depending on the type of BBD device used (number of stages). 1024 stages (A-188-1B) and 2048 stages (A-188-1C) are produced as standard models, but modules with other stage counts may be produced on a spot basis depending on BBD availability. A shorter number of stages is ideal for chorus/flanger-type sounds, while a higher number of stages allows for use as an analog delay.
