DOEPFER / A-184-1 RM/S&H/SL

Variations

DOEPFER's Eurorack modular synthesizer. This module features three functions: a ring modulator, a sample and hold/track and hold unit, and a thru-limiter.

The A-184-1 is a module that integrates three functions. It combines the functions of the A-114 ring modulator, the A-148 sample and hold function, and the A-170 thru-limiter, into a single channel, all within a 4HP size.

The upper section is a standalone ring modulator. It features two inputs (X and Y) and an X*Y output that outputs the ring-modulated sound.

The lower section is a combination of sample and hold/track and hold and a thru-limiter. These two functions are internally connected, allowing you to apply a thru-limiter to signals generated by S&H/T&H. S&H/T&H can be switched using a switch on the panel. If the switch is set to T&H and nothing is connected to the trigger, only the thru-limiter function is available.

Sample & Hold and Track & Hold
Sample & Hold maintains a constant voltage for the sampled signal. It holds the voltage when it detects an upward angle in the trigger signal and remains that way until the next trigger is input. The duration of the trigger signal's high and the timing of its low state are irrelevant.

Track & Hold outputs the sample signal directly when the trigger signal is high. When the trigger signal is low, it holds the sample signal voltage at a constant level at the moment it changes to low.
