DOEPFER / A-160-5 Clock Multiplier

Variations

DOEPFER Eurorack modular synthesizer clock multiplier module. It multiplies the input clock signal and outputs the result. Can be used to generate ratcheting sequences.

The A-160-5 VC Clock Multiplier / Ratcheting Controller is a clock multiplier module that multiplies an input clock signal and outputs the result. The clock signal to be multiplied is input to Clock In, and the multiplied clock signal is output from Clock Out. Multiplication is performed using a multiplier set by the mode switch (three different modes) and the Manual knob. Alternatively, the multiplier can be set using an external CV input to CV In. Nine LEDs indicate the currently set multiplier. The Clock In/Out LEDs provide visual confirmation of the input and output clocks.

Another important use case besides clock multiplication is the generation of ratcheting sequences. The German electronic music group Tangerine Dream is famous for this type of sequence. While a typical sequencer generates only one gate signal per step, a ratcheting sequence generates multiple gate pulses per step. The A-160-5 allows you to define the number of gate pulses from a sequencer. When the input CV is 0, no gate signal is generated (step mute). As CV increases, it outputs two or more gate pulses defined by the mode switch and the CV signal.
