This module is manufactured by German synthesizer manufacturer Doepfer. It is a filter module using opt FETs, enabling extremely fast attack/decay times and FM.
The A-101-6 Six Stage Opto FET VCF is a filter module that uses opto-FETs to control the filter frequency. Opto-FETs are similar to so-called ""vactrol"" circuits, but use FETs (Field Effect Transistors) instead of LDRs (Light Depending Resistors). Opto-FETs house a FET and an LED in a light-tight enclosure. The FET's resistance changes as it responds to the light of the illuminated LED. Opto-FETs respond much faster than vactrols, enabling extremely fast attack/decay times and FM.

The A-101-6 consists of six 6dB filter stages. Each stage can be used as a low-pass, high-pass, or two all-pass. The following circuit diagram shows the four available modes. These modes can be changed by changing the jumper pins on the PCB. (The default setting is low-pass.)

The variable resistors in the circuit diagram are opto-FETs. The filter frequency can be controlled manually with the Freq. knob or via an external voltage control. The operation of the opt FET is indicated by the brightness of the LED on the front panel.
