Sago Releases Its Limited Edition MONOEYES Masafumi Todaka Signature Model

The Masafumi Todaka signature guitar (Toddy SG) has been released by Sago New Material Guitars, who builds a wide range of guitars and basses including standard models, signature models, and full custom-order models!

As many of you may know, Masafumi Todaka is a very popular guitarist who plays in the bands MONOEYES, ART-SCHOOL, Ropes, and Crypt City. He has also played backup guitar for many famous musicians in the industry.

Sago / Toddy SG Pelham Blue

The Toddy SG model was built based on the Gibson vintage SG that Todaka played as his main guitar for many years. It might look like a general SG type guitar, but the wood and dedicated custom wound pickups have been installed to replicate Todaka’s ideal tone. The Toddy SG is a completely different and new type of SG guitar that incorporates Todaka’s commitment to his musical artistry and painstaking effort into making this instrument.

This bright Pelham Blue/Black guitar has been painted with a lacquer so thin that you can see the grain of wood and feel the original acoustic vibrations directly from the wood.
In addition, the dummy leaf spring vibe roller was installed to prevent the headstock from dropping that often occurs with the SG guitars. I think many people also like the look of the leaf springs.

The custom neck grip has been cut according to the neck grip measurements of the vintage SG.
Since Sago mainly builds full custom instruments, this custom grip is a unique option. The custom neck grip is available for order so you can play using a grip that’s comfortable for you.
Custom grips seem to be a popular option for musicians because the shape of the grips changes depending on the guitar. Musicians may feel that switching guitars can be difficult, especially during live performances. Even a slight difference in the shape will affect the feel of the guitar.
Sago made a comfortable neck grip for the Toddy SG that is neither too thin nor too thick in the lower and higher positions after listening to Todaka’s input. It’s nice that anyone can experience playing the guitar with the neck grip that Todaka has said himself that it’s comfortable.

As for pickups, the Toddy SG uses the L(x) Custom Humbucker, which is hand wound at Sago’s workshop and was created with a vintage sound that also has a modern update. Todaka and Sago worked together to come out with this original pickup that was completed after a lot of input from Todaka and several prototypes.
