Solar Guitars - A List of Signature Models Part 2

In part 1, I introduced 5 signature models of guitarists that included Ola, the founder of Solar Guitars. This time, I will introduce 5 signature models and include basses!

■ Tommy Vatterli (Coroner)

Tommy Vatterli is the guitarist of Coroner, a Swiss thrash metal band that released many great albums in the 80's and 90's. Coroner is characterized by a musical style that can be described as technical thrash metal or progressive thrash metal. Guitarist Tommy is also known for his participation in the German thrash metal band Kreator after Coroner disbanded in 1996.
The signature model is equipped with a Gotoh GE1996T instead of a Floyd Rose on a locking tremolo. The pickups are Fishman / Fluence Modern models, and both the sound and playability of this guitar are packed with attention to detail.

■ Kirk Windstein (Down)

Kirk Windstein is a guitarist known as a founding member of Down led by Phil Anselmo, and his signature model is a very simple guitar with a single EMG/81 pickup. As of March 2023, it is the only guitar equipped with EMG pickups among the many Solar Guitars that are equipped with original Seymour Duncan PUs or Fishman Fluence pickups.

Based on the Type E model, the guitar has orthodox specs with 22 frets and is 24.75 inches. This guitar has the appearance of “漢,” which means "man" in Japanese.

■ Nocturno Culto (Darkthrone)

Nocturno Culto, guitarist/vocalist of Darkthrone, one of the earliest bands that led Norwegian black metal, has created a signature model that is so orthodox and classic looking that it doesn’t even hint at the "inner circle" image.

The body/neck is made of mahogany, clad in Tobacco Sunburst finish. The pickups are Duncan Distortion (SH-6) that is popular among HR/HM guitarists. It produces a fat and powerful sound even at high-gain settings.

■ Jonas Bjorler

Jonas Bjorler is the bassist for The Haunted, a deathrush band that also includes the brand's founder Ola, and At The Gates, a Scandinavian melodeath mainstay. He is also known as the main composer of the aforementioned bands with his brother Anders Bjorler.

Solar Guitars basses are equipped with dual coil pickups as their basic specs, but the Jonas Bjorler model uses a PJ pickup arrangement. The Jonas Bjorler model has a simpler spec than other models that only has master volume, balancer, and treble controls.

■ Johan Niemann (Evergrey)

The signature model of Johan Niemann, bassist of the Swedish progressive metal band Evergrey, before Evergrey was the bassist of the symphonic metal band Therion.

Alder, which features a punchy midrange, is used for the body back, and has a gorgeous-looking flame maple that is used for the body top. EMG's PJ type pickups are used to output a clear sound ideal for progressive metal ensembles.
