SOLAR GUITARS - A List of Signature Models Part 1

With the release of the CHUG pedal, the guitar brand SOLAR GUITARS has been gaining a lot of attention. One of the attractions of this brand is that they offer a lineup of guitars in various shapes and specs. This article is going to focus on SOLAR GUITARS’ signature models. The concept of this brand is exclusively for modern metal, and the sharp concept is even more pronounced when it comes to SOLAR GUITARS’ signature models. We are going to introduce some great models that are hard to find in other brands.

■ Ola Englund

Ola Englund is the founder of SOLAR GUITARS and guitarist of the death metal band The Haunted. The A1.7BOP Artist and the A1.6BOP Artist were models designed to be played by Ola himself.

The basic specs for both the 6-string and 7-string are a swamp ash body, a roasted maple neck/fingerboard with an Evertune bridge. It also features simple yet practical controls: a master volume and 3-way pickup selector. This is one guitar that can output signature tones in the shortest possible time, whether on stage or in the studio.

■ Patrik Jensen (The Haunted)

Patrik Jensen, who plays with Ola on The Haunted, is a guitarist who supported two bands, The Halo Effect and At The Gates, at DOWNLOAD JAPAN in 2022, where he showed off his skill.

His signature model is based on the Type E model with an alder body and maple neck. FISHMAN / Fluence Modern model pickups were chosen for the wide-range and powerful sound.

■ Martin Larsson (At The Gates)

At The Gates is a pioneer band that can be credited for building the cornerstone of melodic death metal. The A1.6ATG MKII is the signature model of Martin Larsson, the guitarist who has been a part of At The Gates since their early days.

The A1.6ATG MKII features simple controls such as a master volume and 3-way pickup selector, and is equipped with FISHMAN / Fluence Modern pickups. This guitar is a quality and solid guitar that was designed for stage use first and foremost.

At The Gates goes by B standard tuning with all strings tuned down two whole tones and one half tone. A 27” scale model is also available for tuning down into the range of 7-string guitars.

■ Marzi Montazeri (ex-Exhorder)

Marzi Montazeri was a member of Phil Anselmo’s solo project Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals and played in the American thrash metal band Exhorder. He is also the guitarist known for playing in Michael Sweet’s Ten album and has also released his own solo album featuring Tim ”Ripper” Owens.

His signature model is based on the Type E model, but features 24 frets and a 25.5” scale. Equipped with a Floyd Rose tremolo system, it is more suitable for lead guitarists.

■ Jason “Killertone” Frankhouser

Jason Frankhouser is the guitarist in the death metal band Martyred who is also a YouTuber, a sound engineer, and puts on many more hats.

His signature model is equipped with SEYMOUR DUNCAN / Black Winter pickups. The Black Winter pickups were developed exclusively for black metal and other extreme metal styles, and they deliver a sharp sound that is ideal for high-speed riff playing. The lineup includes two types: a TOM bridge type and a Floyd Rose type.

SOLAR GUITARS has many more attractive signature models that I could write about, but this article will end up being too long, so I am going to stop here. It seems to me that there are many different types of guitars that metal guitarists have a preference for, depending on whether they tend to focus on riffs or leads, what kind of amps they use, and what kind of tuning they use.
