We are in full-on spring. Isn't it too early?
With the announcement of festivals and performers all over Japan, festival-goers, including myself, must be in such a high mood. And I'm sure you've secured your tickets, undeterred by soaring ticket prices!
So this time, I would like to write about what to do in case of heavy rain, which is a common occurrence at outdoor festivals. Bring on the guerrilla downpours!

■ Prepare Yourself for Heavy Rain at Outdoor Festivals
- If it starts to rain, put on rainwear immediately → Put on rainwear before it really starts to rain.
- Wear clothes made of materials that dry easily → Even if you wear rainwear, you may get soaked from the sleeves or neck, or get wet from sweat. Thick fabrics such as denim are not recommended as they are difficult to dry.
- Don't run under a roof → Everyone thinks the same thing = getting stuck = harder than getting caught in the rain.
- Don't use umbrellas at festivals → they block other people's vision and are dangerous in crowded places.
- Don't overdo it → Know your physical strength.
- Getting soaked to the skin and watching live music → can feel really satisfying (don't catch a cold).
■ Points for Surviving Heavy Rain
- Rainwear made of breathable fabric is recommended over a vinyl raincoat → It is less likely to get damp.
- When wearing both a rain hood and a hat, put on the hat after putting on the hood → If you put on the hood after putting on the hat, the rain will enter through the brim of the hat from your neck to your back...
- Shoes should be as waterproof as possible → Wet socks increase the discomfort index and make your toes all wet and soggy.
- Use the rain cloud radar on your smartphone app → Be prepared.
- Prepare a change of clothes, as you may not care about the rain in the middle of your favourite live performance → Even T-shirts sold at the venue (be careful!). (But there may be a long queue for merch).
It's easier if it doesn't rain, but a little bit of rain is good for the air and the dust, and sometimes even rainbows appear.
Can't wait to see who will be playing at Fuji Rock and other events in the future!
That's all for now.
