Tahorng’s Elesa, electronic saxophone, which was the talk of the town at the NAMM 2023 and the Tokyo Gakki Expo, is finally available for purchase!
What is Elesa?
The Elesa is an electronic saxophone (digital saxophone) released by Tahorng, the company who released the electronic recorder Elefue, which has been featured on a TV show and a Yahoo! News article.
The Elesa is an instrument that can be enjoyed casually by people who have played in a brass band and those who would like to try wind instruments but find them too difficult.
Recommended Points of the Elesa
Point 1 - You can select the fingering!
The keys are arranged in the same way as saxophones, but you can choose the key assignment according to your own instrument experience, such as saxophone, recorder, or trumpet.
Point 2 - You can play Elesa with music played back via Bluetooth!
The Elesa has a built-in 2-inch speaker, which can play music via Bluetooth while playing Elesa.
Since wind instruments can only produce one note at a time, you want to enjoy playing them in an ensemble rather than solo. Elesa can be played while playing karaoke sound sources or model performances, so you can enjoy playing it alone.

Point 3 - Available in 3 colors: White, Red, and Black
While most wind synths are colored based on monotone black and gray, the lineup of Elesa also includes red, which is cute just to have, and white, which shows off the gold piping. They would also make great gifts.

The Elesa is also equipped with sufficient functions: a transpose function unique to digital wind instruments, a built-in sound source with 20 tones to choose from, a bite sensor, and vibrato settings.
The flat bottom of the instrument allows it to stand on its own.
I tried it out right away!
Size
Specifications
- Dimensions: 430 mm (length) x 80 mm (diameter)
- Weight: 406g
The Elesa is about as long as an alto recorder and compact enough to hold easily. It is also lightweight. I even thought I might not need a strap for short periods of practice!

Mouthpiece
The mouthpiece is equipped with a bite sensor, so you can add vibrato by biting the mouthpiece part.

The sound is produced by simply blowing it like a recorder, allowing you to play comfortably without worrying about your embouchure.
Tones
There are 20 built-in tones! Not only saxophone, but also flute, oboe, trumpet tones, and other basic wind instrument tones are all available.
Personally, I liked the 18 Bottle Blow tone!
Operability
Tones and transpositions can be controlled by turning the knob on the side of the unit. The display is also easy to see.
The screen of digital wind instruments often displays numbers only or you have to look at the manual while trying out various buttons, so I found it easy to make controls on this Elesa!

The key button is quite firm to press. The Elefue had a mechanism like touch-sensor, but the Elesa feels like a firm press, and I think the key button is easier to understand for those who are trying electronic wind instruments for the first time.
I tried playing it!
Since it is the Christmas season, I played a Christmas song! It will be fun to play solo or in an ensemble.
The popular electronic saxophone Elesa will be released on December 15 (Fri.)! It is recommended for the Christmas season!
