Happy New Year!
The new year is a good time to start something new.
When I thought about introducing something new from the perspective of the Tech Team, I thought it would be interesting to introduce some at-home DIY products instead of just showing you some musical instruments.
So this time, I’m going to introduce five products that anyone can easily make themselves.
1. Mogami / 2534-1m Black
The first item I’m going to show you is a cable. The cable making process has a lot to do with understanding the basics of soldering. If you are interested in learning about wiring guitars or making effects pedals in the future, I recommend that you start by making your own cables.
Here is a video on how to make a microphone cable. Even if you are making a cable for the first time, this video will help you to easily finish a cable all by yourself.
You can learn how to not only make microphone cables but also learn to make phone and RCA connectors, or whatever cable you’re interested in making.
2. One Control / Cable Tester for CrocTeeth Solder Free Kit
Next, here is a cable tester. This tester has the bare minimum necessary functions, is plain-looking and only supports phone-to-phone, but it’s useful to have one on your pedal board.
As for making the board yourself, I think that this is an interesting way to add your own creativity into building the board since the board is bare. Your board will be reborn full of originality.
3. Fostex / P650-E
I recommend the Fostex P650-E speaker box for first-time speaker builders. The most difficult process in building a speaker is to build a speaker box and tune the inside. The P650-E comes with this process completed. Simply install the dedicated P650K speaker and you have a speaker that can be called a homemade product.
Once you have completed the speaker and have become accustomed to using it, you can enjoy tuning it to your liking by adding or taking out the amount of sound-absorbers inside, replacing the wiring, and do whatever else you want with it.
4. Meinl / MYO-CAJ Cajon
Next, I would like to introduce this cajon-making kit by Meinl. For a while, I was really into making my own cajon. It took me several days just to draw the plans, buy the materials, and cut out the wood. It was fun to prepare, but honestly speaking, I just really wanted to assemble it as fast as possible and start playing it! This DIY kit solves that dilemma by providing you with pre-cut wood pieces. In other words, you can start assembling just before the process starts to get fun. Tools such as screwdrivers and clamps are required, but the level of difficulty is low. This set is also a great project for children, so I recommend this to parents and children who are interested in making musical instruments together.
5. LOST WEEKEND PROJECT. / AB Box Production Kit LWPAB
This last kit that I’m introducing here is the AB Box Production Kit. The kit comes complete with circuit boards, switches, and other parts, and of course, the case has holes already drilled into it. To be honest, making a case is at the top of the list of troublesome tasks that require the use of tools and are potentially dangerous. By reading the attached QR code, you can view the assembly instructions, and if you know how to do soldering work during assembly, you can easily make an AB box. It is also a good point that the footswitch is a true bypass with 3 circuits and 2 contacts, and an interesting feature is that you can change the LED lights to your favorite color to add even more originality.
These are five products that make it easy for anyone to start making things.
Please handle tools with care when making these products.
