Sound House - Homemade Tools by a Guitar Repairman

Now let's start repairing! You want to start repairing now but you don’t have the tools. There are many situations where you don't have such tools at hand.
As a genius inventor repairman, there is not much that I can't make! So this time, I would like to introduce you to some homemade tools that will get the job done.

■ Grounding String Conduction Checker

When plugged in and the alligator clip is in contact with the string, the bulb in the upper right corner of the tuner turns to blue. This is great!
The workroom has a maximum of four people playing at the same time, so we can visually check the sound to make sure we don't miss anything. Genius!
I can hear people saying, "You can just use a tester," and “my ears hurt”, but it saves me the trouble of having to prepare a tester, so it's useful not only for inspections but also for repairs.

■ Octave Template

Octave adjustment is troublesome, isn't it? Adjustments are quicker if the octave point is visible! So I wrote octave points on an acrylic board that I found lying around and put it on the bridge for registering the octave points.

■ Wiring

The electrical parts of a boxy guitar can only be accessed through the F-holes or PU counterbore holes, making it very difficult to install them. This is a super handy tool that makes it possible to install parts smoothly even in tight spaces, and without it, you will not be able to do anything.
These wiring tools are called by different names depending on the type of industry, such as wire, lead, or steel.

■ Bridge plate chisel

This is a chisel for removing the bridge plate in the sound hole, created from discarded metal in our technical department. I created this chisel while wondering what to do when there was a repair that required the removal of the bridge back plate. I think it would have looked better and been more accurate if I had sharpened and bent an existing spatula, and it would have been cheaper in terms of man-hours, but I put that aside. I hope that I won’t ever have to use this tool again, as I only remember that the repair work was very difficult.

■ Magnetic Checker

This checker can measure the polarity and magnetic force (in this case, magnetic flux density) of magnets used in pickups by voltage change.
I have been trying to make a magnetic flux density checker as cheaply as possible.
It took me more time to research than to make, so I might as well have bought it.

■ Anchor Stud Plastic Plate

This is a useful plastic plate for pulling out the bridge and tailpiece anchor studs.
The metal plate on the top surface is made of SCUD / JP-20C.

I will continue to make more and more of my own tools every time I think, “I don't have the necessary tools on hand!” I am sure that the number of homemade tools will continue to become more useful than I initially thought.
