In this issue, I’m going to introduce some measuring tools that I use for my repair jobs.
Some are required to be connected to large equipment or computers, but this time I would like to focus on small measuring instruments.
■ Digital Tester

This is indispensable for measuring continuity, voltage, resistance, temperature, and things of that nature. This is a technician’s basic piece of equipment.
■ Clamp Meter

Clamp meters are used to measure voltage and current values. The difference from a digital tester is that taking a measurement can be done simply by clamping a wire, making it possible to easily measure changes in the voltage and current while operating the product under inspection.
■ Battery Checker

Mainly used to check the condition of lead-acid batteries. UPSs and portable speakers often use lead-acid batteries.
■ Capacitor Tester

Although it is possible to measure capacitor values with a digital tester, it is necessary to use a tester dedicated to capacitors for more accurate measurements.
■ Cable Checker

A digital tester is sufficient enough to check continuity, but this one is useful when a large number of cables or special cables need to be inspected.
The CT-3 cable tester from dbx is available at Sound House and has similar specifications to cable checkers.
If you’re just using this tool to inspect guitar cables and XLR cables, a CT-2 cable tester is sufficient.
Other cable checkers are available from various companies. Choose one that best suits your application and budget.
■ HDMI Cable Checker

HDMI cables are one of the most special cables that consist of as many as 19 wires. A dedicated tester is useful to quickly check continuity.
■ DMX Tester

The DMX (DMX512) is the standard communication network for controlling lighting equipment. The DMX tester allows you to visualize the signal.
DMX testers are used to check the signal of DMX controllers and it measures signal changes when multiple DMX devices are connected.
■ Illuminance Meter

This tool is used to compare lighting equipment.
Please read the following blog for an explanation of illuminance.
⇒ Choosing the Brightness of Lighting
■ Anemometer

Anemometers are used to compare fan operation. It is often used for bubble machines, for example.
I, albeit very briefly, introduced 9 items to you.
I use these measuring instruments for inspections and repairs.
I have many more measuring tools and I hope to show them to you again.
Thank you for reading to the end.
