Dear Bassists, do you have any performance-related concerns?
Perhaps you're thinking, "I want to be able to play fingerstyle more smoothly!" or "I wish I could get better at slapping..." If these are some of your concerns, you might be interested in parts that could help you improve. While practice is certainly the best way to improve, wouldn't you want to try parts that might assist in your bass playing?
Sago has released products designed to address these concerns for bassists. This time, with the help of Mr. Kubocchi from Sago, I will introducing three recommended parts for bassists!
S_IX / List of Pickguards for Bass Guitars
This is a custom part designed to be applied underneath the high strings side of the bass guitar.
When playing slap techniques, if your fingers are too far underneath the strings, it can be difficult to smoothly transition to the next position. While adjusting your finger placement or switching to a thicker pickguard are possible solutions, changing the pickguard can be challenging and costly.
This is when the Finger Step comes in handy! It’s a simple solution that involves sticking it in place with double-sided tape roughly where you place your fingers. This helps to fill the gap between the strings and the body.
The Finger Step comes in two sizes, S and L, and is available in various colors and designs. You can choose a color that matches your existing pickguard to keep it discreet, or opt for a contrasting design for a stylish accent. If you like the thickness of the Finger Step, it could also serve as a reference for the thickness of a future custom pickguard order.
This is available at an affordable price, I recommend giving it a try if you’re unsure!
Finger Step Introduction Video
This is a part designed to be installed between the pickups and underneath the strings.
The surface of the Finger Ramp is curved to match the arch of the strings, allowing you to pluck the strings while your fingers rest on the ramps, so a smooth and efficient picking motion. Unlike some commercial products that require drilling holes or using double-sided tape to attach, this product is specifically designed for Jazz Bass types and can be installed using the pickup screws. This means you can attach it easily without damaging the body or affecting the finish!
Recently, two new materials have been added to the lineup! One is Richlite, made to resemble high-quality ebony. Its matte, luxurious texture provides a sophisticated accent to the body. The other is Clear Acrylic, which doesn’t interfere with the paint or design. If you prefer not to obscure your favorite pickguard design or wood grain but still want a ramp, the clear acrylic option is perfect for you.
Sago / JB Style Stack Knob Set
These are JB Style Stack Knobs.
For those using active pickups, many are attaching stack pots.
While metal stack knobs certainly look cool, they can dramatically alter the appearance of a Jazz Bass. Having a different design just for the stack knobs can also be quite off-putting.
That’s where the JB Style Stack Knobs come into play! These knobs are designed to blend seamlessly with the classic look of a Jazz Bass, so there’s no noticeable difference in appearance.
With these stack knobs, you can customize your bass to be active without changing its classic look.
These are the recommended products for bassists released by Sago. Did any of these items catch your interest? In addition to solving concerns when playing the bass, they’re also great for refreshing your setup or making small customizations. All of these products are available at Sound House, so be sure to give them a try!
