These days, it’s not unusual to see people bringing their own microphones to PAs, events, or even karaoke. If you’re one of them, you might be wondering, “What kind of case should I get?”
Well, this article is for you.
Today, we’ll be taking a detailed look at the SKB microphone case: 3I-0907-MC3.
Let’s dive right in and explore this case hands-on with a thorough review.
SKB / 3I-0907-MC3 Microphone Case – Dustproof & Waterproof Design
Let’s Start with the Exterior
The SKB 3i Series cases are all known for their rugged construction, and this case is no exception. It’s dustproof and waterproof, giving you confidence that your microphone is protected even before you open the case. The surface texture is smooth and matte, and it’s made of resin. It feels great to the touch.
Despite the sturdy build, it’s surprisingly lightweight, weighing just around 1 kg, making it easy to carry.

Here’s a side view of the case laid flat.
The latch locks are solidly built, and the air cap labeled "SKB" in the center helps regulate the internal air pressure. The handle is also well-designed. It’s comfortable to grip and it feels sturdy and strong.

Here’s the bottom side of the case.
While it doesn’t have rubber feet, it rests flat and remains stable when placed down, so there’s no real issue.
Now, let’s take a look at the inside.

The base comes pre-cut with foam slots for three microphones, making it ready for use right out of the box. The lid also features built-in foam padding, which helps hold the mics securely in place when the case is closed and in transit, ensuring that they don’t move around inside.
Let’s Take a Closer Look at the Dimensions

First, the length of the microphone compartment is approximately 165mm. However, since the foam is made of urethane, it has a fair amount of flexibility, so slightly longer microphones should still fit without issue.

As for the grill section, its depth and width are around 50mm. The part that corresponds to the grip area of the mic is about 25mm deep.

By the way, while the foam’s flexibility helps, there are pre-cut slits at the base and end of the grill section. If you have a longer microphone, you can remove a bit of foam in those areas to adjust the compartment size. Of course, you can customize the shape yourself without relying on the slits, but thoughtful design like this is always appreciated.

So, I went ahead and tried placing microphones inside. From top to bottom: BEHRINGER XM8500, CLASSIC PRO CM5S, and SHURE BETA58A. All are dynamic microphones, and they fit perfectly. It’s incredibly satisfying to see them fit this neatly in the case.
Even for microphones with non-round grille shapes (like the AKG D5), as long as you carve the foam accordingly, they should fit securely.
So, what do you think? While technically you can carry mics in any case that fits the dimensions, the SKB microphone hard case offers a whole new level of security with its precise fit, rugged build, and foam interior that holds your gear firmly in place.
If you're looking for a case to store and transport your beloved microphones with peace of mind, I highly recommend the SKB 3I-0907-MC3!
