I became a full-time employee at Sound House while I was working as a musician.
A decade ago, it was said that musicians who became full-time employees had abandoned music. However, today, with the widespread use of social media, the scope of musical activities is no longer limited to live performances, and music is being consumed in a variety of ways. Every time I browse Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube, etc., there is a vast amount of information shared by many musicians. As a musician myself, I am a bit tired of the competition on social media, but if you don’t take advantage of it, you won’t survive. And it feels much more painful than the situation that my music is not known to the world. In fact, many of the same musicians are working together with the same struggles and pains. I prefer to gain experience in the field and communicate directly with the audience rather than through social media. Once I perform my own music in front of people and receive cheers from them, my worries about music and my private life are forgotten. I became a musician to be myself. Here is a blog post about a humble man seeking what only I can express myself.
I am an employee of Sound House and I am also a heavy user of Sound House. As a side note, I regularly buy "Fender Premium Celluloid 351 Shape Pick Heavy Abalone" in a pack of 30 each time.
I buy most of my gear from Sound House. Here are some of the pieces of equipment that I have actually used over the years and put to great use in live performances.
1. ROLAND / JC-120 Guitar Combo Amplifier
This is such a classic that the tension is different from the first sentence, but I really like it. I have never seen a live house that does not have a JC combo amp! The JC's clear, high-fidelity sound from low to high frequencies is excellent for clean, speedy cutting, as well as for freely expressing sound creation with effects. The natural and beautiful chorus that spreads out in the space is too good to be true. I turn it on at every live performance to expand my guitar playing.
This one is really recommended for those who want to play synchronization (play sound source from a computer) during a live performance! Equipped with a full-color LCD that allows you to check the level of the output sound source with high visibility while playing, this product is not only for live performances, but is also very useful for everyday music production! The bus-powered operation is another key point!
3. AKG / D7 Dynamic Microphone
For over a year, I had been performing with a microphone that was permanently installed at the venue. I had no trouble using it, but then I had a chance to acquire a D7. I used it for live performances and rehearsals. I was surprised that my voice sounded clearer than usual. I was able to experience the wide range of a condenser microphone with a dynamic microphone. The balance between the robust low frequency range, the core mid-range, and the high frequency range with just the right amount of extension is superb. This is recommended for vocalists who want their lyrics to come out clearly, not only because they feel good when they sing, but also because the actual recorded sound is easy to hear. It is also hypercardioid, making it resistant to feedback. This is a great point for safe usage in live performances.
An essential item for guitar vocalists. This pick holder can be attached to a microphone stand or used as is to organize picks on a tabletop. The transparent design is just my preference.
Earbuds used by the drummer of my band member. According to the drummer, the detachable cable is very helpful, not to mention the sound insulation. They are highly mobile, and even during intense drum parts, they do not come out of his ears, allowing him to concentrate on his playing. I used them once myself and found them to be a secure and comfortable fit, with a wire to hold the bend. The transparent design is just my preference.
In addition to the items listed here, I have purchased various other items at Sound House. (The JC-120 is not my personal item, but...) Leaving aside whether or not this is helpful, I highly recommend that those who want to start live performances or who want to prepare equipment for live performances should definitely buy all their stuff at Sound House.
