Hello everyone.
Today, I’ll be sharing a repair case I performed on the FS600LED.
American DJ / FS600LED LED Spotlight
This is a 60W LED spotlight featuring seven colors: white, red, yellow, blue, green, orange, UV, and warm white. These colors can be intuitively controlled using the switches on the top of the unit.
It includes functions like beam, focus, and zoom, allowing to easily create the atmosphere on stage with just one fixture.
*As of June 2024, the FS600LED LED Spotlight has been discontinued.

Let’s get started with the repair.

As far as I inspected the fixture, I found that the framing shutter handle was broken and the iris shutter could not be fully closed.
These damages on shutters suggest it was likely used in settings where the light focuses on subjects frequently, such as stages where performers move around a lot on a runway (I often guess this way from the condition of broken parts).
To check for any other issues, I tested the lighting, color wheel operation, and dimmer function. Fortunately, no other problems were found.
Despite some deformation and deterioration of the unit, the condition was within the average level considering how long it has been used.
With the initial inspection complete, I began disassembly.

(Diassembling!)

Here’s what the inside looks like. Though it appears quite complex, the structure follows this sequence: LED → Framing Shutter → Iris Shutter → Color Wheel → Lens.
Since I needed to replace the shutters, I removed the entire unit in between.

However, reaching the shutter unit was more challenging than expected.
I was looking for a way to remove the shutter, but I had to disassemble a significant portion of the surrounding area to get to it.
Repairing spotlights is quite challenging.

Finally, I managed to remove the shutter. Now, I can replace the old parts with new ones.
The framing shutter (top in the image) is a simple structure where the light is blocked by blades. It’s essentially a plate with a handle, much like a metal spatula.
The iris shutter (bottom in the image) consists of several thin blades that form a circle, allowing for the adjustment of light size while maintaining a circular shape.
Most stage lighting fixtures feature either of these two types of shutters.

With the new parts in place, I reassembled the unit in reverse order and performed a functionality check.
The light now focuses properly, creating a clear circle.
The repair was a success!

That’s all for my diary entry on the FS600LED shutter replacement.
The FS600LED allows for intuitive operation and is user-friendly, suitable for both beginners and professionals. Its useful functions make the FS600LED a reliable lighting fixture.
It still lightens up the stage brightly.
I’m giving a thumbs up to encourage this guy that will go back to work tomorrow again.
That’s all. Thank you for reading, and see you next time!
