Continuing from the previous post, this blog is also about lighting. As the title suggests, I’m going to discuss the comparison between disco balls from Stage Evolution and Eliminator. Disco balls, which are placed at the center of the stage ceiling, come in various sizes and from various manufacturers. You might wonder if there are any significant differences among them, so I've compiled a clear comparison list for you. If you're considering purchasing one, I hope this blog will be helpful to you.
Let's get started!
~ About Disco Balls ~
Disco balls are spherical objects made of materials such as styrofoam with mirrors attached to them. When they’re illuminated by spotlights, the light reflected by the mirrors creates a beautiful display on walls and other surfaces. Additionally, when used with a smoke machine, they can create effects that showcase multiple lines of light.
Two products that I am comparing this time are:
Stage Evolution / MB20 20cm Disco ball
Eliminator / EM8 20cm Disco ball
Let's open them up right away.
Oh... they look so alike! lol
Both have a mirror diameter of 1 cm and surprisingly weigh the same at 0.55 kg.
They are both resin spheres with mirrors attached.
The only difference seems to be the motor ring...

Since I have them here, let's light ‘em up and investigate (*'▽')! ★
The setup can be seen in the the showroom demonstration room at Sound House.

Well, yeah, they look pretty much the same.
By the way...I often receive questions about how the lighting changes when the size of the disco ball is changed out. This time, I took comparison photos to explore that.
The disco balls used were
Stage Evolution / MB30 30cm Disco ball
Compared to Stage Evolution / MB20, this one is +10 cm in size.
It weighs approximately 1.5 kg. The disco ball diameter is the same as MB20, at 1 cm.
I took a shot from a different angle this time to show the entire thing.
First, here's Stage Evolution / MB20 ↓
Stage Evolution / MB30 ↓
As you can see, the MB30 by Stage Evolution has significantly more light particles and increases in brilliance. However, even the MB20 is quite beautiful. (*'▽') ↓
How was it?
In this blog, I introduced various pictures of a couple of popular disco balls. If you are considering purchasing a disco ball, I hope you’ll find it useful. Come back again soon <(_ _)>.
