Taking a closer look at the appeal of Tagima Guitars from Brazil!

It’s only getting colder these days, and I hope everyone is living their best guitar lives. This time, I would like to introduce my favorite brand, Tagima Guitars (pronounced TAH-jee-mah), which has been gaining popularity in Brazil and the USA!

01. What is Tagima Guitars?

Tagima Guitars is a brand based in São Paulo, Brazil. Why is the Japanese family name “Tajima” used in Brazil? Actually, there was a Japanese man who started making guitars in Brazil in the 1980’s, and his name was Tajima. From there, the long history of the brand began. As it has grown, Tagima Guitars hired Marcio Zaganin, a luthier who has provided excellent products to many famous players, and has produced guitars and basses loved by various artists, including Kiko Loureiro.

02. What is their appeal?

Materials range from major types of woods to unique woods rarely seen in Japan, such as pau-marfim and African mahogany, which have a thick core and produce a warm sound. Tagima Guitars is also particular about new designs, and has developed a unique and appealing lineup that includes the Modena Series acoustic electric guitars with rock ‘n’ roll elements in its shape. There’s also the Stella DW Series that combines vivid colors and beautiful wood grains.

03. Let’s take a look at the actual guitar!

I showed you why the brand is cool as a whole, and finally, I would like to introduce my most recommended guitar, the Rocker Cosmos!

The Rocker Cosmos Series is assembled in the USA and boasts the best quality out of all Tagima Guitars guitars. The stylish head and the unique shape of the pickguard first catch the eye, but a closer look at the body reveals a deep cutaway and a shape that is in line with the player’s body. The design not only looks cool, but it also has some practical features.

Also, looking under the bridge, there is something that looks like a wheel. If you have a Gibson ES-355 or something similar, you will immediately notice that this is a Varitone switch, which works like a notch filter. To make it easier to understand, if you turn the Varitone switch, the highs gradually become milder and the sound becomes warmer. By making full use of this function, it is possible to create a wide range of sounds, from an intensive rock sound to a rounded jazz or fusion sound. This function may not be for everyone, but it is one that you should definitely try at least once! The Varitone switch is also available on the middle-class TW 61 Series.
