[Beginner’s Guide!] How to Add Monitor Speakers to a Simple PA System

Today, I’m going to explain how to add monitor speakers to a simple PA system, a common inquiry from our customers!

I’m going to use the popular JBL EON208P for your reference today.

JBL / EON208P Portable PA System

On the lower left of the front panel, you will see ‘MONITOR OUT’.
This is where all the audio signals input into the EON208P are output before amplification.

By connecting powered speakers like the one below to this terminal, you can add monitor speakers to your setup.

CLASSIC PRO / CSP8P PA Speaker

The CSP8 has an XLR LINE input, so you can use the following cable to connect it.
*The type of connecting cable will vary depending on the input terminals of the powered speakers.
*Choose the cable length that suits your setup.

■ Connecting via the phone jack on the EON208P

CLASSIC PRO / CXP050

■ Connecting via the RCA jack on the EON208P

CLASSIC PRO / CXR050

Although the EON208P is an 8-inch speaker, if you need louder sound, you can connect larger powered speakers to the MONITOR OUT, using the EON208P speakers as monitors.

Additionally, the EON208P’s enclosure is designed to be versatile and can be used as a floor monitor, as shown in the image below.

Another method to add speakers is to connect the EON208P’s MONITOR OUT to a power amplifier.

For example, if you want to add a 12-inch passive speaker, you could use the following combination.

CLASSIC PRO / CSP12 PA Speaker

CLASSIC PRO / CPX1500 Stereo Power Amplifier

The CPX1500 has XLR input terminals, so you can connect it to the EON208P’s MONITOR OUT using the CXP050 or CXR050 cables mentioned earlier.

Both the CPX1500 power amp and the CSP12 speaker use SpeakOn connectors, so you can connect them with the following cable:

For other common simple PA systems, such as the Yamaha STAGEPAS400BT and STAGEPAS600BT, you can also add speakers by connecting them to the MONITOR OUT.

As demonstrated, adding monitor speakers to a simple PA system is quite straightforward. Once you follow these connection steps, even those unfamiliar with PA systems can easily expand their setup.
