The EON700 series has been very popular and is available in four types of speakers: EON710/712/715/718S.
In this issue, I will introduce the tools necessary for maintenance of the EON700 series, such as removing the grille and replacing the tweeter driver.
The EON700 series has screw heads that are different from the usual Phillips/flat head screwdrivers, and as you may know if you are a DIY or equipment maintenance person, they are called hexlobe screws. They look a lot like hex screws, but they are hexagonal star screws. It cannot be removed with an Allen wrench, and if you turn it forcibly, you may damage and crush the threads, so be especially careful when removing the screw.
Here is an image of the actual hexlobe threads.

It’s obvious at a glance when you put them side by side with hex screws!

For the EON700 series, you only need a hexlobe screwdriver in sizes T15 and T20. I often use an electric screwdriver, so I use screwdriver bits. Handles for screwdriver bits are also sold separately, so you can also attach the bit to a manual handle and work with it. If you have an electric screwdriver, it may be easier to purchase a screwdriver bit.

When replacing the tweeter, it is difficult to access the tweeter part without disassembling the enclosure back and forth, so I recommend that you prepare a long screwdriver if you are replacing the tweeter. The size is “T20” for the tip and “250mm or 300mm” for the shaft length. The shaft length is perfect at 250mm, so there is no problem if you adjust it to be a little longer.

The tip size is indicated on the butt of the screwdriver handle.

Unscrewing with a long screwdriver can be a little difficult if you are not used to it, but make sure you can properly get a feel for it while doing so.
The tweeter is attached to the front side enclosure horn with rotary screws as shown in the following image, so it can be removed by rotating it.

In fact, once the woofer unit is removed, you can reach out and access the tweeter unit. However, since the tweeter unit is firmly screwed in place, it is difficult to apply force when removing it if you are reaching out to remove it. For safe and secure work, it is recommended to work separately on the front and rear enclosures.
