Visit the Sound House Onagawa Showroom

A few years ago, I posted a blog series to guide a tour in the UK, visiting locations in the movie featuring the rock band the Who. I received joyful feedback from readers saying they were able to reach those places without getting lost.

This time, I’d like to take you on a trip in Japan, delivering information on various instruments and equipment while enjoying the travel experience.

Did you know that Sound House has two showrooms? These are experiential spaces where some of the products listed on the website, such as PLAYTECH instruments, CLASSIC PRO PA equipment, and STAGE EVOLUTION lighting equipment, are available for hands-on experience. There’s the main showroom in Narita, Chiba Prefecture, and another showroom in Onagawa, Miyagi Prefecture.
This time, I will take you to our Onagawa Showroom in Miyagi, a place known for its scenic beauty, gourmet delights, and marine products.

Onagawa is about 1.5 to 2 hours by train from Sendai via the JR Senseki Line and Ishinomaki Line, or about an hour by car via the Tohoku Expressway.

Upon arriving at Onagawa Station, the stylish shopping street Seapal-Pier Onagawa appears right before your eyes.

Though it’s tempting to head straight there, take a moment to look back at the three-story station building.

Designed by the internationally acclaimed Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, it boasts an artistic presence. The third floor has an observation deck offering a panoramic view of Seapal-Pier.

There’s also an onsen facility, “Onagawa Onsen Yupoppo”, spanning the first and second floors, and a footbath spot just to the left as you exit the station, perfect for soothing travel fatigue.

Now, let’s head to the Sound House Onagawa Showroom!
Stroll along the promenade in front of the station, enjoying the refreshing sea breeze, and cross the pedestrian crossing to reach the entrance of Seapal-Pier Onagawa.

As you walk, you’ll be captivated by charming shops on either side offering gourmet food, flowers, and more.

When you see Mother Port Coffee on your right, turn right, and you’ll find the Sound House Onagawa Showroom.

Let me give you a brief overview of the showroom.
As you step inside, the first thing that catches your eye is the impressive display of guitars and basses, including some rare discontinued models, prominently featuring PLAYTECH.

You’ll also find guitars from Recording King, a brand loved by Ian Matthews. This time, the RDS7 model was on display, making you want to play “Shake It”.

A variety of colorful guitar straps are also on display, giving off a slightly ethnic vibe.

You can also try out the electronic drums, PLAYTECH PDS750, on the stage!

There’s even a xylophone! Try the PLAYTECH PXL300 and challenge yourself with a cooking show theme tune.

There are keyboard instruments too!

You can actually play the PDP300S-WH.

You can even play the PLAYTECH accordion, PAK700.

Thinking of playing a song by the Pogues, I realized how challenging the accordion can be, requiring quite a bit of strength.

There are also small instruments recommended for children’s musical debut. Try them out for some parent-child musical fun or as part of an early education experience.

In addition to instruments, there is PA equipment on display!
Mounted on the rack is a Soundcraft mixer EFX12, CLASSIC PRO wireless mic receiver CW802R, power distributor PD12 II, graphic equalizers CN360 and CEQ2231, and power amplifier CPX900.
The rack also includes a STAGE EVOLUTION lighting controller SCENESETTER NEO.

Looking up at the ceiling, you’ll see various STAGE EVOLUTION PAR lights and moving heads connected to the showroom trusses.

I hope this could be a great inspiration for live music club and shop lighting setups!

Recording equipment like the Focusrite mic preamp ISA One is also on display. Try out the touch panel of the lightweight and compact digital mixer CLASSIC PRO DM20. The microphones on display include AKG’s condenser mic C214 and 512 AUDIO Limelight. The monitor speaker is the JBL 305P MKII.

Seeing the CLASSIC PRO mixers, AM03 and AM802FX, and the audio interface Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 (gen. 3) in person, you’ll notice just how compact they are.

For those who do home recording, in particular, will appreciate being able to check the size of the gear in person.

Parents and children will enjoy the CLASSIC PRO touchscreen display CLD Series.

The whiteboard function allows kids to have fun drawing. This masterpiece drawn by a kid shows great promise for the future!

Bring a USB and experience its usability with your favorite videos on the screen.
Viewing on a large screen might bring a new level of excitement.

Finally, unwind with the soothing sounds of a ukulele...

I’ve given you a quick tour of the Sound House Onagawa Showroom in Miyagi Prefecture.
The showroom also features a compact display of various instruments and sound equipment, including cajons and xylophones.
