Do you use a phaser pedal? As a modulation type effect pedal, it has become one of the most useful tools in sound creation. In this issue, I would like to introduce three of the most recommended phaser pedals! Please check them out!
■ What is a Phaser Pedal?
The phaser pedal creates a wavy sound. This effect is created by mixing out-of-phase sounds with the original sound. A similar effect like a flanger pedal can be used, but the difference is that a phaser pedal uses a phase shift, while a flanger pedal uses the delay of the original sound.
This effect pedal is used in a wide range of settings, including up-tempo rhythm playing like cutting, arpeggios that produce a beautiful resonance, and playing lead in combination with distortion.
MXR / M101 Phase90 Phaser
The MXR M101 Phase90 is a classic phaser pedal. Many people may think of this orange color at first when they hear the word “phaser pedal”. Characteristic of this product is that it’s designed with only a knob to adjust the speed of the swell. Despite its simple design, it’s exquisitely tuned to produce a sound that is always usable no matter which position it’s in. Many keyboard players, including Gregg Allman, are fans of this instrument. Even if this is your first phaser, you can use this effect pedal with no worries!
TC Electronic / Helix Phaser
This is the TC Electronic's phaser pedal named the Helix Phaser. This pedal is a completely different design from the M101 that allows the user to create sounds with four knobs. The Speed knob adjusts the swell speed, the Feedback knob adjusts the resonance of the effect component, the Depth knob adjusts the depth of the modulation, and the MIX knob adjusts the balance between the effect sound and the original sound. It also has a toggle switch that can switch between two types of phaser sounds with different characters. In addition, it also supports TC Electronic's well-known TonePrint function. It is truly a phaser that can be enjoyed in more ways than one all in one unit! It also equips stereo output, so it is recommended for keyboards as well.
Electro-Harmonix / SMALL STONE
Lastly, I would like to introduce the Small Stone Analog Phase Shifter by Electro-Harmonix in this attractive design. It will surely make you feel good to have it on your feet. This model is a compact version of the company's famous Small Stone Phaser that was introduced in 1974. The smooth, traditional, and exquisitely shimmering phase sound is the key point of this model. It is equipped with a Color switch that allows you to change the degree of effect applied, and you can obtain the unique wavy sound that has won the hearts of many players. I also recommend the wide range of Rate because it allows for a wide range of sound creation.
I have introduced the above three models of phaser pedals. I hope this will help you to choose the right pedal for you. Check out our product pages too!
