Service Man Diary - My Favorite Electric Screwdriver

It’s been so hot lately, it feels like I might melt.

Even these electrolytic capacitors are swollen.

Jokes aside, let’s talk about the tools I use for work. This time it’s about electric screwdrivers.

Electric Screwdriver

The one I always use is this Makita pencil screwdriver. It’s very slim, making it extremely portable. Despite changes in my working environment, I’ve been using it for about five years now.

So why this one? Firstly, it’s very comfortable to hold. As the name ‘pencil screwdriver’ suggests, you can hold it at the same angle as a regular screwdriver, so it’s less tiring to use for extended periods. The grip can be folded at a 90-degree angle, allowing for a firm grip.

Additionally, it has a continuously variable motor, allowing fine torque adjustments based on how much you press the switch. For tasks requiring more power, like cutting, pressing the switch unleashes its full potential.

This switch is incredibly user-friendly. It has protrusions on both sides; pressing in the direction you want to turn makes it rotate that way. This saves the hassle of operating a rotation switch and allows for intuitive operation.
The protrusions on both sides mean you can press with your index finger, middle finger, thumb, or any other finger, making it very convenient.

With that said about my beloved electric screwdriver, I thought it was time to give it a good cleaning. Upon closer inspection, I noticed quite a bit of dirt accumulated around the hinge.

I’ll be cleaning it with a parts cleaner that can be used on plastic. This is invaluable for cleaning almost anything without concern, and it works great on electric screwdrivers too.

Using a firm cotton swab, I’ll carefully clean the finer parts. This particular type of cotton swab, which is quite rare, is very useful for detailed cleaning due to its thin, pointed, and dense tip.

Finally, I’ll blow away any remaining dust and debris with compressed air. Now it’s sparkling clean, and my attachment to it has grown even more. It feels great to see it so clean.
