A Big Hit in the Making! Introducing the Attenuator Approved by Our Engineers - This Thing Is Amazing

It’s been quite a while since my last blog.
This time, I want to introduce a product that hasn’t even arrived yet but is sure to be a huge hit.

That product is the PLAYTECH “PAT100.”

Since it’s one of our own products, I personally tested the sample, and I was genuinely surprised by its quality and potential.

First, let me explain what the PAT100 is.
It’s an incredibly convenient device that combines a dummy load and an attenuator into one unit.

Because of my line of work, I often handle amplifier repairs, and one of the hardest tasks is checking whether the amp has any issues when it’s played at high volume.
Normally, there’s no way to test a 200W bass amp at full power to see if everything’s fine.
But with the PAT100, it’s now possible.

When running a test on a repaired amp, I input a sine wave or audio source and check the output waveform with an oscilloscope or similar device. At that time, the amp needs to be connected to something that can act as a substitute for the speaker (so that no sound is produced).
This is where the PAT100 comes in.

When I want to crank a 100W-class Marshall amp to full volume in the middle of the night—
Yes, the PAT100 is essential.

When I absolutely need to capture the raw, real sound of an amp at line signal level for recording or music production—
That’s right, the PAT100 makes it possible.

Its potential runs incredibly deep.

Furthermore, when used as an attenuator between an amp and a speaker, older attenuators often cause a significant change in tone, resulting in thin and unusable sound.
From my testing, the PAT100 delivered sound quality that was fully usable as a real audio source, and I could control even very subtle changes in volume with precision.

What stands out most is its control when used as an attenuator.
You can broadly reduce the volume with the Volume knob, and when you’ve lowered it to the quietest setting, the Fine knob allows for delicate adjustment from volume 0 to the smallest audible level.

Let’s take a look at the back side.

Normally, with an attenuator, you connect it between the amp and the speaker to control volume, so the output from the attenuator must always be connected to a speaker.
However, since the PAT100 has a built-in dummy load, as long as you have the amp and the PAT100, you can output an attenuated signal directly as a line signal without connecting it to a speaker.
On top of that, you can even use headphones at the same time—an excellent feature.

When repairing amps, being able to monitor noise levels through headphones during high-volume testing is incredibly helpful.

Both the front and rear panels have several LEDs, but these are powered by converting the amp’s output into electrical energy, so no power supply is needed.
However, they won’t stay lit continuously unless you’re using quite a high output, so if you want them to stay on at all times, you can use an AC adapter.
Additionally, with an input power rating of 250W, it can be used with most guitar amps. It’s also equipped with a large cooling fan on the bottom panel for heat dissipation during long periods of use, which gives peace of mind.

I have never seen such a convenient dummy load attenuator before.
Considering the price, I have no doubt that it’s going to be a bestseller.
It hasn’t even arrived in stock yet, but we’re already getting pre-orders, so you’d better hurry.
With all these features, the selling price is only 29,800 yen!!! (*Price as of November 2025)
I’m already using the sample unit for work, and there’s no way I’m letting it go.

Stay tuned for my next blog post.
