Tuning keys are essential for drum performance!
Various brands offer a range of models! From those with unique looks to those designed for convenience, the variety of tuning keys can be overwhelming when deciding which one to buy. Today, I will introduce some of the most popular tuning keys from Sound House!
Tama/ 6560
Among the many tuning keys sold at Sound House, this one is the clear number one.
It doesn’t feature any standout gimmicks but is a classic "simple is best" tuning key. Its cute, chunky appearance also sets it apart from the rest.
Evens / DATK Torque Key
This convenient tuning key automatically disengages once a certain level of tension is reached. It features a dial on the knob that allows you to adjust the tension in ten different levels, making it highly practical.
It is especially valuable for drummers who want to smoothly replace drumheads.
Gibraltal / SC-DB
With its unique appearance, it's hard to tell at first glance that this is a tuning key! This tuning key can be attached to an electric drill or ratchet driver. allows you to loosen drum heads or quickly adjust tension with minimal effort, making it extremely convenient.
Robokey / Robokey 4X
This tuning key shares a similar concept with the previously introduced Evens / DATK. By adjusting the knob on the body, you can change the drum lug rotation speed up to four times faster. It is a convenient choice because, while the Evens / DABK required additional hardware like an electric screwdriver, the ROBOKEY is self-contained and more accessible.
Yamaha/ DK-P
This tuning key features a grip that is 160mm in length. Compared to typical tuning keys it is longer and allows for easier application of force, making drumhead replacement quick and straightforward.
Sabian / SAB-FKEY
This tuning key is my recommendation.
It is extremely compact and convenient to carry.
Many drummers have probably experienced the frustration of losing their tuning key, which is often kept in the kick pedal case, and finding themselves unable to tune their drum kit in the studio.
By having the SAB-FKEY on hand, you can avoid the inconvenience of arriving at the studio only to find you can’t assemble your kick pedal or tune your snare and toms.
I keep mine in my key case!
This time, I introduced some of the popular tuning keys at Sound House.
