From a Former Brass Band Member! Recommended Care Products for Brass Instruments

In winter, it is hard to keep the pitch from going flat because of the cold weather. Brass instruments are made of metal so they’re sooo…coolllddd. . .
I think it’s the time of year when it’s too hard to move your fingers when you’re playing a woodwind instrument.
However, students who were busy with ensemble competitions in the fall may be able to relax and work on club activities now that winter has arrived.
This is the time to take the time to take care of your brass instruments and make them shine!
In this issue, I will introduce cleaning products for brass instruments.

1．Mouthpiece Brush

Do you wash your mouthpiece properly every day? The mouthpiece is the part that directly touches your mouth. It’s important to clean it properly every day and treat it with care.
I recommend this product for caring for your mouthpiece.

2．Cleaning Cloth

This is a standard product of YAMAHA. The good thing about this product is that it is just so durable.
The soft fabric, which is ideal for shining the surface of the instrument, has a luxurious touch. The color is gray and stains are noticeable, but on the other hand, it may be easy to see where the stains are. If brass instruments are left with fingerprints or oil on them, it can cause rust or discoloration. After playing, wipe them off with a fine cleaning cloth and store them.

Everyone, do you oil your rotary and pistons regularly?
Cleaning is not the only way to care for your wind instrument.
Finally, you should lubricate the levers, rotary, pistons, tuning pipes, and other parts with special grease, or oil to keep them in smooth working condition.
Wipe off any remaining old grease or oil before applying it. Use the cleaning cloth mentioned above to gently wipe them off. For fine parts, a cotton swab is easy to use.
Especially when playing outdoors, the guitar will be covered with dust and sand. If you leave it as it is, the movement will go bad and the instrument will become damaged.
