Inter BEE 2022 - Even Beginners Found the Video Equipment Experience Enjoyable - Part 1

With the air of self-restraint gradually easing, we are finally back to the days when we can enjoy life and events like before. I went to the Inter BEE for two days in a row, and once again, the event was so large that I could not visit all the booths! I was able to experience firsthand the equipment on display and the passionate performances, which gave me hope for the future of video and audio equipment that has expanded in the market after Covid. What was particularly impressive was that there were many exhibits that showed off the stream of workflow through products in a way that was easier to understand, and even a beginner like myself could really enjoy the show.

Since I was in a hurry to get around and many of the booths were very crowded, I will introduce some of the booths that I managed to get into and experience. Please note that the order in which I introduce the booths is based on the order on which booths I went to.

■ ROLAND

The first booth I visited was from Roland, an innovator brand of video equipment that created the V-1HD, a pioneering video switcher product.
The appearance of the booth looks as if it were entering a club event booth at a rock festival and was truly fun. You could really get a feel for Roland’s sense of its commitment as an electronic musical instrument manufacturer. Let me introduce some of the products that I was able to experience. Upon entering, one of the staff members recommended the SR-20HD video switcher.

The audio mixer aspect of this unit is truly unique to Roland, as it can record to SD cards and can also be connected to mobile devices for direct streaming via LAN and USB ports. It may sound like I'm repeating myself, but Roland's audio mixer allows for intuitive operation from the main unit, which is a feature that has only been achieved by Roland.
The other is the long-selling VR-1HD video mixer.

At exhibitions like this, they are always popular and hard to touch, but I happened to have a chance to touch one. When I actually touched the model, I found that it is really easy to operate even for beginners. Picture-in-Picture. You can easily insert a picture, set its position, and even do voice effects with the buttons on the main unit!

There are many other things I would like to tell you about, but due to space limitations, I hope to talk about them more in detail at another time. I was already able to enjoy the real thrill of being able to touch the actual device.
Another topic was the corner where we showed off the opening of an authorized distributor for AUDIX, a prestigious brand that is a pioneer in the field of professional microphones. It was a great sight to see so many microphones of the highly trusted brand used by Paul McCartney on his world tour on display, and the crowd was so large that it was barely possible to take a picture.

■ ATOMOS

The ATOMOS booth near the entrance of Hall 7 caught my attention. ATOMOS booth is a well-known manufacturer of high-quality monitors and recorders.

The company presented its products based on the ATOMOS CLOUD STUDIO, which started its launch in 2022. It is a cloud-based video production tool that enables live streaming using new devices connected to the network, Adobe Frame.io.
The devices on display include the SHOGUN CONNECT with streaming functionality, the soon-to-be-released ZATO CONNECT, and the ATOMOS CONNECT module for NINJA V/V+.
By using ATOMOS CLOUD STUDIO, data files are transferred to Adobe Frame.io and uploaded to the cloud, making it possible to share files with people who do not have a Frame.io account. This is a very reliable system that makes it easy to share data with video production staff who are not onsite. If you are interested in more details, please check out the ATOMOS Cloud Studio video!

■ MEDIAEDGE

Next, I visited the next booth from Mediaedge, a distributor of ATOMOS products.
The most eye-catching products were the long-awaited 4K models of the VIDEO PRO series, including the VPUC-SH1STD and VPUC-HS1STD.

At the booth they exhibited the workflow for streaming video over a network and projecting 4K video in combination with Beetec encoders and other equipment. There is a video of this as well, so be sure to check it out!

■ Blackmagic Design

Blackmagic Design is another booth with a strong presence at Inter BEE.
With its wide variety of products, Blackmagic Design has developed a wide range of workflows.
The highlight of the booth was the world premiere of DaVinci Resolve for iPad.

This long-awaited software allows users to intuitively control the DaVinci Resolve to cut and color pages on the iPad with a finger or stylus!
There were many other exhibits including cameras and ATEM series, which I regret that I cannot show you in the space of this blog. In addition to the product exhibits, there were demos and talk sessions with a variety of guests, including certified DaVinci Resolve trainers, which attracted many people to the booth.
The demonstration by Yumeto Kitayama, the colorist in charge of color grading for the Academy Award-winning film Drive My Car was a big hit.
In addition, the booth was filled with a variety of workflows, including the ATEM Mini, a standard switcher, as well as a hands-on camera exhibit corner, which has become a special area at Inter BEE.
