Do you take videos with your smartphone?
I often do. When I was a student, I was really into Instagram Stories and used to upload them often! Also, I think I’ve been taking more videos than ever since I started uploading onto Sound House’s TikTok. I found out that I have 1600 videos on my phone... I have to clean them up...
Nowadays, we can take high quality videos thanks to smartphones having higher resolution. I had a SLR camera, but these days I mainly film with my smartphone.
But! When it comes to audio, I recommend using an external microphone.
The reason is because the microphone on the smartphone has a wide directivity and the recorded sound comes out to be airy and muffled.
I recommend using an external microphone so you can easily connect your phone to pick up the target sound source!
Please check out our assortment of external microphones for smartphones available at Sound House.
Well, let’s get it started!
Did you know that there are wireless microphones that can be used as external microphones for your smartphone?
This time I tried out a wireless microphone for smartphones from BOYA who is a standard brand that has a large lineup of microphones for smartphones and PCs!
I checked to see if the wireless microphone for smartphones could reach from a distance, whether the sound quality was okay, and then checked everything else.
Here’s what I used.
I used this BY-WM4 PRO K-3.
What is the BY-WM4 series?
The BY-WM4 series is the 2.4GHz band digital wireless set for SLR cameras and smartphones.
Lineup includes six products: for the 3.5mm, Lightning, and USB Type-C connections, and each set for single channel and dual channel.
Transmitter accepts audio from other line-level devices.
Compact and lightweight with easy connection and simple controls make these features good selling points.
BY-WM4 is a popular series that boasts great value for its price.
This time I chose a single channel set of the BY-WM4PRO K-3 for the Lightning connection.
It comes with the user manual, but I usually don’t read the manual first so I just connected the receiver to my smartphone anyway.

(Sorry, the screen on my phone is cracked.)
As I connected them, the light on the receiver first flashed blue. And then it stopped blinking and stayed lit up. On the transmitter, the light blinked quickly, then it slowed down. I read the manual later and found out that the lights first blink every 1 second, then they start blinking every 2.5 seconds when pairing is complete.
What a surprise, the pairing is already complete.
I was like, “Was it really that easy!?”
If the pairing does not go well, press the ‘Pair’ button on the transmitter, then, stick the included pin into the hole on the receiver in the red square in the picture.

When you can’t get them paired, try this method!
Once the transmitter and the receiver are paired, just connect the included lapel microphone to the transmitter and you’re good to go.
Here’s the TikTok video I took using the BY-WM4 wireless microphone.

How is it!?
Such a high quality with this price. Don’t you think it’s pretty amazing?
I tried it out on the rooftop of the Sound House office building and the audio was able to reach even from 30 meters away!
I was so amazed!
This wireless microphone set for smartphones is perfect when you want a zoom out view but still want the high quality audio!!
The Blink series by Saramonic is also a very popular wireless microphone set for smartphones.
The Blink series is available in two colors, white and black.
Like the BY-WM4 series, the lineup includes the sets for 3.5mm, Lightning, and USB Type-C connections.
What did you think?
I highly recommend the BY-WM4 to those who upload videos on YouTube and any video sharing platform. It will offer more options for video shooting!!
I’m currently planning to shoot another TikTok video with this wireless microphone for smartphones! I will do my best to create interesting videos!
Try out this BY-WM4 wireless microphone for smartphones, which is also great for those who are new to audio gears!
