Service Man Diary - Mini Dekker with a Green Light That Won’t Turn On

This time, I’ll be repairing a Mini Dekker that came in with the issue of the green light not turning on.

Equipped with a 10W LED (RGBW) and 48 lenses, this compact unit provides a wide coverage and delivers a dynamic moonflower effect. It’s affordable and perfect for karaoke or home parties.

Let’s start by checking the reported issue.

Upon testing, I confirmed that, as reported, the green light does not turn on.
First, I’ll open up the unit to inspect the internals.

I’ve opened it up.
Here’s what it looks like inside. The LED circuit board is in the center, and it’s fixed to the motor shaft.
During operation, the LED itself rotates, creating the moving effect.

Now, let’s look for the cause.

I was expecting to troubleshoot, but wait... what’s this?

Hmm, what’s going on here?

BROKEN WIRE FOUND!!!

This is the wire that connects to the green LED.
It’s clearly broken.

The cause seems to be that the adhesive meant for wire protection wasn’t applied sufficiently.
Since the wire is in a moving part, it’s more susceptible to damage, so proper protection is necessary.

I’ll now fix the soldering where the wire is broken.
As usual, I’ll solder the connection.

After powering it on, the green LED lights up. It seems there was no issue with the LED itself.
With the issue resolved, I’ll reassemble the unit.

I’ll secure the wiring with a glue gun to ensure that the wire won’t break again for a while.
Of course, I want to return it in better condition than before, if possible.

The reassembly is complete. Let’s see how it’s doing now.

After confirming that the DMX control and running operations work fine, the unit is ready to be returned.

Despite its small size, this effect light fixture has quite a strong presence. It moves, spreads wide, and uses four colors. It’s a beautiful moonflower effect.

While doing the performance check, I couldn’t help but smile and give a thumbs up.
