Congratulations to brass band members for their hard work in the brass band competition!
I am cheering for those who made it to the national tournament!
After the brass band competition is over, I think the next goal is the ensemble contest. In this issue, I would like to introduce videos of a trombone ensemble performance that I would like you to refer to in preparation for the upcoming ensemble contest!
What is an ensemble?
A wind ensemble is basically an ensemble of two to ten players. The composition of the instruments varies, but the most common types of ensembles are woodwinds, brass, percussion, and group instruments from the same instrument family, and they play pieces organized by each of these instruments. Unlike a brass band, there is no conductor and the group is small.
Let’s get right to it and introduce videos that all brass and trombone players should definitely listen to!
Slide Monsters, the best trombone unit
About Slide Monsters
Eijiro Nakagawa is a very famous trombone player whose name always comes up when asked, “Who is the best Japanese trombone player?” And he is a member of this trombone ensemble group. The group was formed by Joseph Alessi, who is revered as a trombone god, and Eijiro Nakagawa, and has a simple composition of only four trombones. Despite its simple composition, the group sounds like a full orchestra and its high performance technique has made it a very popular trombone ensemble group in Japan, with concerts selling out immediately.

How was it? In this blog post, I have introduced videos of my favorite trombone ensemble groups performing. I would like to encourage not only trombone players but also all wind instrument lovers to listen to them. Also, there are many more ensemble groups I would like to introduce, so I will be introducing them in my next posts. Stay tuned!
By the way, I went to the Samurai Brass concert held on Aug. 27!
Official Website: Samurai Brass

Speaking of Samurai Brass, every summer they have a concert at Tokyo Opera City. This year, all the members gathered! (Last year, two of the trumpet players were absent.) I was glad that I could go (^^)
The signing event was back for the first time in four years, and I was able to talk with all the members for a short while. The performance was very impressive as always, from the sound pressure to the high notes and energetic spirit, I was really impressed.
I am looking forward to next year!
