What is a foldable keyboard really like?

Theme:Keyboards

Have you heard about PLAYTECH's foldable keyboards, which were the talk of the town when they were first released? The PFK series is a revolutionary keyboard that is lightweight and folds up in the middle, making it very easy to carry around. 61-key and 88-key models are available, and I'll be reviewing the 61-key model in this article!

Now it's time to open the case!

It comes in a sturdy-looking case folded. Weighing only about 2.5 kg, it’s fairly light! In its folded state, it is quite compact, with a width of about 47 cm. I can already see that it can be carried easily, and at this point I have no complaints!

Taking it out of the case and unfolding the middle, I was immediately able to set it up in the familiar shape of 61 keys.

Power is supplied using the included USB Type-C cable. When the battery is fully charged, about 4 hours of continuous cordless use is possible. You can take it anywhere and play it.

Now, let's take it out and play it.

Turn on the power. The lamp on the left side will light up and a “power on” voice will be heard. When I pressed the keyboard, the default piano tone came out. The box type keyboard is used, even if you have played the piano before, you should be able to play without any discomfort. The volume can be set from 0 to 15 out of 16 levels. The volume is set to 12 by default when the power is turned on, which is perfect for playing at home.

Next, let's go over how each function feels.

Each of the tones and rhythms is equipped with 128 tones. It seems to be able to play a variety of music genres. I tried several, but my favorite sound source is “19.Church Organ”. Baroque music such as Bach goes well with it.

You can also record by pressing and holding the Record/Play button. It’s easy to record a phrase that comes to mind in the moment so that you don't forget it! Of course, useful functions such as transpose and metronome functions are also provided.

The next feature is “Auto Accompaniment,” which is a main feature.

Pressing the Chord button switches the chord mode in the order of SINGLE → FINGERS → OFF. Pressing keys in the lower register C3 to F4# while the rhythm is playing will play an accompaniment that matches the rhythm. It may take some getting used to, but the fact that even beginners can easily play chords like this makes this keyboard very attractive!

The device also supports USB MIDI, so it can be used as a MIDI keyboard when connected to a computer with the included USB cable! This is exactly what I recommend for those who want to use a full-size keyboard rather than a mini keyboard, and who find the 49 keys to be lacking, but still want something as small as possible. ...... It folds up when not in use and unfolds to become a 61-key keyboard when you want to use it. Some customers seem to be using it not as a regular keyboard but as their MIDI keyboard because it is so convenient.

The above is a quick introduction to the PFK61 folding keyboard. We recommend this product for beginners, advanced users, and DTMers alike. We hope you will experience this foldable keyboard, which is half the size and fully functional!
