The EVERSE 8 is a battery-powered portable PA speaker from Electro-Voice, a very popular brand of PA speakers, and the new 12-inch model, the EVERSE 12 is now available, so I’m going to review it.
Electro-Voice / Everse12 Black

The basic specifications are the same as those of the EVERSE 8, but the 12-inch version is just larger.

First, let’s look at the size!
I compared them side by side with JBL’s IRX112BT 12" powered speaker.

The IRX12BT has a shorter depth, but the EVERSE12 is shorter and more compact in width and height.
The difference I noticed when I touched it is that the top handle on the is vertical (EVERSE12) or horizontal (IRX112BT). The EVERSE 12 has a longer vertical handle, which makes it easier to lift, and I felt that this made it easier to get the center of gravity. I think this kind of feature is very useful for portable PA speakers that are often transported, set up, and dismantled.

Also, like the EVERSE 8, it can be tilted upward and angled in a vertical position, which is a powerful feature when you want to deliver sound to a standing audience or to a distance, even when placed on the floor.

Let’s also take a look at the rear panel!
Like the EVERSE 8, this one has 2 XLR/TRS combo jacks, 1 stereo mini/Bluetooth, MIX OUT, and FOOTSWITCH as the EVERSE 8.

For example, this single unit can be used for solo performance with a microphone, guitar, and backing track.
Of course, phantom power can be supplied (INPUT 1 only), so a high-quality condenser microphone can also be used.
As I thought with EVERSE 8, one of the best things about Electro-Voice speakers is that it is packed with features that assist even beginners to easily and safely set up a high-quality PA.
I want to control from a distance.
I want to check the sound from the audience. No need to go back and forth between the audience and the speakers. With the dedicated EV QuickSmart Mobile app, you can wirelessly control volume, sound quality, effects, and more.

Not sure how to equalize for your instrument?
There are 16 presets available, so you can simply choose one that matches with the instrument you are using. Using these presets as the foundation, you can use the EQ of each channel or master to fine-tune the sound if there is anything you want to fix.

What should I do if I get feedback?
The simple answer is to turn on AFS (Automatic Feedback Suppression). All you have to do is turn it on so the performers can concentrate on their performances.

I don’t understand effectors.
There are a whopping 30 patterns of FX (effects) such as reverbs and echoes applied to vocals and instruments. There are 17 different patterns of reverb alone, so just set the SEND level to the center (12 o’clock), for example, and try changing them one by one to choose the effect that you think is just right.

Getting surprised by a sudden loud voice coming out
This also commonly happens. Have you ever been jolted by the unusually loud “hello” at the start of a greeting? If COMP is turned on, a compressor is activated to adjust the volume of the sound, and loud sounds are suppressed to an appropriate level. On the other hand, it also makes quiet voices louder, so it is a useful function when used by multiple people.

I want to fine-tune the sound quality
In addition to the 3-band EQ for each channel, EVERSE 12 allows you to choose between a 7-band parametric EQ and a 7-band graphic EQ on the Main screen.

I want to increase the number of speakers
The EVERSE12’s MIX OUT allows you to select the signal to be output. If you simply want to increase the number of speakers that produce the same sound, select “Mono (L+R)”; if you want stereo playback, select “Stereo Left” or “Stereo Right”.
*MIX OUT is affected by the level adjustment of each channel; MASTER VOLUME is not affected.

I want to play music even in bad weather
Generally, powered PA speakers are designed for indoor use and cannot be used in wet conditions. With the EVERSE 12, however, by attaching the included waterproof input cover, it complies with IP43 (water resistance to splashing and light rain) and can be used only for Bluetooth music playback even in bad weather conditions (For temporary use only).

The sound was, to put it simply, Electro-Voice. Lightweight PA speakers with plastic enclosures have an image of a slightly blurred bass. The EVERSE 12, on the other hand, has a bass sound that conveys the tightness and volume of a large 12-inch speaker, and I felt good when listening to the sound as a whole. Of course, the mid and high frequencies can also be heard clearly, and the balance with the bass is quite good, so the sound is suitable for everyone, regardless of the application.
While PA speakers with built-in batteries have been released by well-known brands such as Yamaha, Bose, JBL, and Samson, Electro-Voice was the first to come out with a “12-inch” model. This is simply because “larger size = advantageous volume and sound pressure.” I recommend this PA speaker to meet the needs of battery-powered compatibility, more volume, and more bass.
