Line 6 is a well-established brand of digital modeling-centered effectors, speakers, guitars, audio interfaces, and professional audio equipment.
Among these, there must be many people who wonder what the Helix series of multi-effects pedals for professional use is actually all about.
In this article, I would like to talk about the appeal of the Helix series.
What is Line 6?
Line 6's creator, Marcus Lyle, began playing classical piano at the age of seven and acquired knowledge of electronics and computers from his father who was a rocket development engineer.
In his early 20s, Lyle worked as a studio musician in L.A. and designed the DSX and Matrix-12 at Oberheim Electronics, a legendary manufacturer of sequencers and synthesizers.
In 1985, he founded the consulting firm Fast Forward Designs to develop diverse and innovative audio products and went on to design products for various companies. He developed the then innovative for its time, the MTR, ALESIS “ADAT”.
Later, in 1996, Lyle launched his own brand, Line 6, and continues to develop many high-performance gear that are at the forefront of the times.
FYI, the name Line 6 comes from the company's secret code. While working with amplifiers blaring explosively to showcase the sound, they would announce when a customer was coming in by telling the customer, "You've reached extension 6, sir."
Flagship Model of the Helix Series, the Helix Floor
The Helix Floor is the flagship model of the Helix family of guitar processors, offering incredible power, flexibility, and control.
It accurately reproduces the unique characteristics found in the best machines, such as natural overtones, compression and modulation, as well as the stickiness found in some amps. There’s also the intense gain and breakup feel thanks to HX modeling processed by dual DSPs.
Not only is it a perfect match for DTM, but it is also used in the studio and on stage in many settings because of its intuitive and speedy operation.
The powerful dual DSP accurately reproduces not only the sonic characteristics of amps/effects from classic tube amps to recent popular models, but it also reproduces dynamic feel.
Each output stage of the amplifier circuit is carefully measured and recreated to match the original, so Helix reacts and interacts just like the real thing.
The detailed characteristics of the dynamic circuitry, from the ripple noise of the power supply and the sag inherent in each tube to the control of the B+ voltage, are closely measured so that the controls of a real amp are precisely modeled.
What is HX Modeling...?
HX modeling faithfully reproduces the characteristics of old vintage effects, which can be quite peculiar, by modeling each individual component part in the circuit board.
Transtronic can virtually reproduce the characteristics of transistor diodes, whether made of germanium or silicon. This makes it possible to accurately reproduce fuzz, distortion, and other classic pedals that were once thought to be nearly impossible to replicate.
I, too, have often been disappointed by the distortion built into multi-effects pedals and thought that they would never be able to match the real OD, DS, or Fuzz, but I was blown away by how closely they reproduced the real thing.
Standard HX Guitar Processor “HELIX LT”
The standard model HELIX LT is recommended for those who want to use the flagship Helix Floor more easily, but do not want to compromise on features.
It is equipped with HX modeling and powerful dual DSP. With carefully selected I/O and hardware configuration, you can now get the power of Helix at a lower price.
“HX STOMP” - the Ultimate HX Processor on a Pedalboard
The HX STOMP is a very popular model that solves the problem of wanting to install a Helix but it's too big to fit it on a board.
It is the best match for new users as well as those who have already built a board. It is the definitive multi-stomp model that offers not only the best sound quality, but also superior operability and visibility
Why Go This Far? The Marketplace!
The Helix series offers high quality and unlimited sonic possibilities, but there are even more options available in the Marketplace to expand on even more possibilities. You'll definitely find it useful for songwriting and sound design inspiration. The Helix series will become your indispensable companion, since it will continue to be updated even after you get it.
What do you think of the Helix series? Don't you want to try them out?
The Helix series is a dream-like multi-effects pedal that lets you discover the sound you’re looking for while achieving that sound in the blink of an eye. Experience it for yourself.
