The greatest pedal is called the Multi Stomp

Theme:sound&person

This time, I would like to talk about the "Multi Stomp", a multi-effects processor from ZOOM. There are various types and models of the Multi Stomp series. This time I would like to introduce the "MS-50G".
(* The one in the photo is a gold color version, but the contents and specs are the same as the normal one.)

I myself took it out to a variety of sites and there were many times where I thought "I'm glad I brought it".
Introducing the good points of the Multi Stomp as seen from the point of view of an inexperienced person.

What is the Multi Stomp?

The Multi Stomp is a guitar multi-processor equipped with 92 types of guitar effects and 8 types of guitar amp models. Unlike so-called multi-effects, it is a versatile item that also has an amp modeling function.

I had the impression that when it came to multi-effects from a long time ago, the signal chain of the built-in effects was fixed and the optimal operability could not be reached, the itch was out of reach, and the modeled effect reproduction sound quality was low, so people didn’t have a very good image of them.

However, the evolution of digital music equipment in recent years has been wonderful, the sound quality is better than the previous models, and the operability and cost performance have improved unthinkably.

It's often misunderstood because the MS50G has one stomp switch, and it's easy to think that the number of effectors that can be used at the same time is one.

However, it is possible to scroll by pushing the + on the left and right of the ring around the stomp switch.
Up to 6 types of effectors can be used at the same time.

Recommended usage

So far, I have given an overview of the Multi Stomp, but in this article, my recommended method, or
Rather, I would like to introduce my own method of using it.

First, starting with amp modeling, set "CAB" to "OFF" and turn off the cabinet simulator. Then, you can build a simple amplifier system by inserting it directly into the back return of an amplifier in a studio or live house (like a so-called preamplifier).

Next, add an equalizer, noise gate, and compressor as you like to fill the sound.

Save this sound as "A" in the patch memory on the preset list screen.

Then, create a preset that corresponds to "B" based on "A". Make the amp master extremely loud to boost the sound more than the "A" sound.

Furthermore, if you add modulation and delay, you can switch to a boosted preset for a solo with one stomp.

Since the liquid crystal display shows "A / B", first I thought it was a switch between the two, but I was able to save from A to Z.

If you set it with "A / B" and stomp, "A" and "B" will go back and forth like "A → B → A → B → ...", and if you save 3 or more and stomp on it, it goes from "A to Z" → A to Z → ..." You can switch the stomp with one switch repeatedly through a set list for band’s live gig. (The setting may be a little troublesome, but ...)

I personally use the main distortion as "A" and the one with boost and delay for solo as "B" for "A / B" switching.

It is encouraging to have only one stomp box!

There are many times where various tones are suddenly required on the site such as when you support someone else. The biggest strength is that you can pull this out in such a case. It's so compact that having one in your gig bag pocket will be a great ally.

Also, I think that the abundance of "usable" effects will be a good reference for beginners, such as learning "what plays what role" and "how the sound changes".

Summary

I've explained it briefly, but I think players will have various opinions such as "I can't compete with the actual amps and pedals" and "There is a better amp simulator". I myself use "Atomic / Amplifire" and "LINE6 / HX Stomp" in my main setup.

Certainly, the higher end is better. However, the operative words here are "Good cost performance!!", which is often said about this product.

If a high-end processor suddenly breaks down, you can't immediately prepare a substitute machine, but even if you have two, including a spare, you will get change back from ¥20,000.

Considering all the factors such as compactness and operability, it is now one of the pedals that I cannot be easily let go of.

This is a truly "famous effector" that provides infinite possibilities from a normal size stomp box. I think equipment will evolve in the future, but I think this is a pedal that will be remembered in a few years as one of the famous effectora of the past.

I don't think it's a good idea to write only the merits, so I will dare to mention some unfortunate points and precautions.

[Caution for power supply connection]

→ Since it is a digital device, it may cause noise unless the power supply is separated from other devices or an isolated power supply is used.

There is no such thing as a power supply "out of the question!", but there is no doubt that battery power is better. Since it is compatible with AA batteries, I also recommend buying AA batteries in bulk at Sound House.

→ My pedal was installed in my effector board with Velcro. While I was transporting the board, it got loose, and the shield connector that I had stored with it hit the stomp box and the liquid crystal got broken. (* I bought a new one again after that.)

So after all is said and done, it’s definitely worth the price, and then some.

There’s also the "MS-60B" stomp box for bass! Please check it out!

Finally, as a sample of the sound, I will upload the recorded video turning on the cabinet simulator and inserting it into the interface.

I hope this will be of some help to you in choosing your new equipment.
