By Subgenre! Let’s Think About Which Guitar Is Good for Heavy Metal Music!

I know this is sudden, but do you like metal music?

Thrash metal music such as Metallica, metalcore, post-hardcore, screamo, grindcore, and Djent (which used to be very popular but not as much anymore) are all subgenres of metal music, It is no longer possible to lump them all together under only the genre metal music.

When I was in college, I was a member of a metal club and I remember buying too much equipment because the tuning was different depending on the band we were covering and the amps we needed were different. (I think I ended up buying a Kemper to complete the project, but this time I'm going to focus on equipment only!)

In this column, let's consider the equipment you can buy at Sound House for each sub-genre that came from metal!

I will be limiting this article to genres from the 2000's onward.

Metalcore

The most common band in current metal is still metalcore!

I personally feel that the common denominator of this genre is a melodic single-note riff and a breakdown from the development with an easy-to-understand chorus. This time, I'm going to consider how to create a sound with a beautiful bridge mute.

Post-hardcore

I feel that there aren’t more opportunities to play chords in this genre than in metalcore! So let's not think about single-note bridge mutes or anything like that, but rather, let's think about creating a sound that feels like it fills the orchestra nicely when you play a chord.

Hardcore is a genre derived from punk culture. I feel that it could have come from various other genres, so this time I'm going to use a band with an inertia that seems to be on the YouTube channel hate5six....

I believe that this genre is actually popular in Japan. The big name Slipknot in the genre has organized festivals in Japan! Deftones seems to be getting hot again because of the 00's revival that is going around, so I'll try to come up with a sound like Deftones.

I know it's hard to support all Nu Metal bands, but I think that the current Nu Metal bands (more like Deftones' lineage) use single coils and down-tuning (like Loathe...they are really cool!) (Seriously, it's cool.)
The lower the tuning, the less important the high attack is, so this is not a bad choice. (I mean, it's a baritone guitar, so it's an octave lower by default.)

Marshalls are not versatile in this type of genre, but when you take it in the opposite direction, it becomes unique.
The single-coil sound that gives more high rather than mid is a good way to get a sense of attack, and people who like it will like it! Give it a try.
