First, let's start with the background music for this time!
Many of you might have guessed it already. Yup, it's Clapton.
It's a song about falling in love with Pattie Boyd, who was George Harrison's wife... But for now, it's perfect background music for this issue to get us excited!
About Lace
Lace was founded by Don Lace in 1979, and after artists began using the "Lace Sensor," they became famous for its low noise and distinctive glossy sound, which continues to have a core fan base to this day. Nowadays, the brand has expanded to produce high-fidelity pickups incorporating unique ideas, which I'll introduce later on.
Lace / Lace Sensor Gold / White Cover
This is a classic model famous for being used in the old Eric Clapton models. It features a unique sound that cannot be compared to other single-coil pickups. The clean tones are straightforward and clear, yet somewhat lacking in depth. However, this allows effects to sound good and each string to sound clear. Also, it is visible in band mixes.
Due to its low noise, it's recommended for those trying to make a clear and versatile sound with Lace Sensor, or anyone wanting to try it!
Lace / Dually Lace Sensor Gold / Gold White
Some of you may also know this model.
It was previously equipped in the Jeff Beck models and is known for its sharp, crisp sound. It is not a high-power pickup, but its tone ranges from overdrive to light, making a pleasant sound, and it has a clear forward-driving sound and a delicate tone similar to single-coils.
It is highly recommended when paired with Lace single-coils in an SSH configuration.
Lace / Alumitone Single-Coil Black Anodized
If you're seeing this for the first time, it might surprise you, but this is also a pickup!
It’s an unusual look with no coils or pole pieces, but wouldn't it look pretty cool paired with a modern guitar?
While traditional pickups pick up string vibrations and output voltage, the Alumitone uses current output. Simply, it's made to be extremely resistant to noise, providing a straightforward clean tone with impressive effects response. Also, its wide range and minimal noise make it capable of various sound making.
Lace / Alumitone Deathbucker
The Deathbucker is a high-output model from the Alumitone series which I introduced earlier. Despite its high power, it's remarkably low in noise and its sound is surprisingly flat. It doesn't have a challenging characteristic that might make it difficult to handle, so you can make straightforward tone tailored to the equipment used, which may be ideal for modern sounds and thriving in recent metal scenes.
Conclusion
I used to play a Strat with Lace Silver and Blue pickups combined with a Mid Booster, but writing this issue has made me want a similar setup again! Lace releases many innovative products with unique ideas, offering a distinct playing experience that you can't get from others. If any of the products caught your interest, be sure to check them out!
