Early in the morning of June 27, 2022, we, some employees of Sound House, were digging dirt at the former Onagawa Junior High School! In reality, we were digging out the sediment that had accumulated in the waterways, also known as ditches, to allow water to flow. Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, the area has been untouched and the ground has subsided significantly, and the ditches had accumulated so much earth and sand that they overflowed onto the road surface. When it rained, the water would not flow, and huge puddles would appear on the road. So we went to work. We dug up the soil by ourselves, without hiring a contractor, with the disaster of 11 years ago in our minds. It was hard not to feel the true weight of history.
