“I tried recording a cover song, but the sound isn’t turning out how I imagined...”
“I can’t get rid of environmental noise or lip noise...”
“It’s expensive to ask a mixing engineer every time...”
To help all you singers struggling with these issues, here are 10 recommended plugins that can solve those problems!
iZotope / Velvet
This next-generation vocal processor comes from iZotope, the well-known brand behind AI-powered plugins.
When editing recorded vocal tracks, using built-in DAW tools like noise gates can often make the sound feel overly processed or muffled. Still, you probably want to remove sibilance and lip noise while keeping your voice sounding natural and ‘like you’. If there were a plugin that could solve all of that with just one tool... Well, iZotope Velvet is that dream plugin.
■ Main Features
- Intelligent De-Essing | Smart Removal of Harsh Sounds
- Velvet separates sibilant (S-sounds) and tonal (voice tone) components, allowing it to naturally suppress only the unpleasant, harsh sounds without affecting the rest of your voice.
- Intuitive De-Clicking | Rescue Your Best Takes
- Whether you’re dealing with mouth clicks, pop noise, or other clicks, Velvet’s De-Click function has your back. Simply lowering the fader triggers automatic noise detection and repair. It enhances your vocals without sacrificing the original nuance of your recording.

iZotope / RX 12 Advanced
The latest version of iZotope’s renowned audio repair plugin series, well known for its AI-powered processing.
When it comes to noise reduction and waveform editing, RX has become an industry-standard solution. RX 12 builds on the series’ established capabilities, including:
- Reducing and removing breath noises from dialogue and vocal recordings
- Removing noise and reverb from dialogue and vocals
These features have been further enhanced, and RX 12 also introduces 5 new modules, including source separation capabilities for vocals, bass, percussion, and more.
In addition to singers and vocal performers, RX 12 is also highly recommended for users working in narration, voice-over production, and other spoken-word content.

WAVES / Curves AQ
An equalizer plugin from Waves, one of the industry’s most established plugin manufacturers.
Curves AQ is the world's first autonomous EQ. Simply click the Learn button, and the plugin analyzes your audio, determines the optimal tonal balance, and generates five unique EQ profiles automatically. Because it suggests five different EQ curves without requiring complex operation, it allows even beginners who are unsure where to start with EQ to easily experience the process of boosting and cutting frequency ranges to shape their sound. If you’ve always found EQ intimidating or difficult to understand, Curves AQ may be the perfect tool to help you achieve satisfying results with minimal effort.

WAVES / JJP Vocals
An all-in-one vocal processing plugin from Waves, combining EQ, compression, and spatial effects into a single, intuitive interface. Simply select a preset, and you can quickly achieve a polished, professional-quality vocal sound. The plugin makes it easy to create polished vocal tracks without needing to spend time dialing in multiple processors individually. Its ease of use is one of its biggest strengths, making it especially appealing for beginners. If you’re overwhelmed by the sheer number of plugins available and aren’t sure where to start, JJP Vocals is an excellent choice.
Universal Audio / Topline Vocal Tune
A pitch-correction plugin from Universal Audio, a company renowned for its legendary recording equipment.
The workflow is remarkably simple:
- Select the key of the song
- Adjust the correction speed (how quickly pitch correction is applied)
- Set the correction range/tolerance (narrower settings produce a more pronounced ‘Auto-Tune’ effect)
With just these 3 controls, Topline Vocal Tune can deliver natural and effective pitch correction. While it doesn’t offer the deep editing capabilities of Melodyne, it is an excellent plugin for users who want to experience and learn pitch correction. In addition, the Low Latency mode enables real-time operation, making it suitable for live vocal streams and performances!
Antares / Vocal Reverb
The Vocal Reverb is a vocal-focused reverb plugin from Antares, the company behind Auto-Tune and many other popular vocal production tools.
One of the standout features of Vocal Reverb is how easy it makes reverb setup. Reverb often involves a large number of parameters and can be difficult to dial in, but this plugin simplifies the process with features such as AI Reverb Assist and Auto-EQ technology derived from Auto-Tune.
As you become more comfortable with the plugin, you can also take advantage of more than 10 effects available across 5 pre-reverb and 5 post-reverb processing slots.

Antares / Warm
The Warm is a saturator plugin from Antares. Even when you’re satisfied with your singing and expression, sometimes the vocal can still feel like it lacks presence or it sounds too clean and doesn’t quite blend into the track. In those moments, a saturator like Warm can do wonders.
Another great feature of Antares plugins is their lightweight performance. They don’t demand excessive PC specs, which is a big plus. Antares also offers reverb, EQ, and more, so if anything catches your eye, be sure to check them out!

■ What is a De-Esser...
A de-esser is one type of effect used for vocals. The term comes from the idea of reducing or removing excessive ‘S’ sounds in speech and singing. (Excerpt) ‘S’ sounds often contain sibilance (the sharp noise that occurs when air hits your teeth while pronouncing certain consonants). These sibilant sounds typically fall within the high-frequency range (a few kHz) and can become overly noticeable when recorded with a microphone. A de-esser is a type of compressor specifically designed to target and control these frequencies.
Sonnox Oxford / Oxford Inflator Native
A limiter plugin from Sonnox, a plugin developer that incorporates technologies developed during the creation of the legendary Sony OXF-R3 digital console.
By simply adjusting the Input and Curve controls, you can increase a vocal’s presence and help it cut through a mix without getting buried by the backing track.
If you’ve ever worked with a cover song backing track that has been mastered to a very high loudness level and found that the vocals keep getting lost in the mix—yet lowering the backing track volume doesn’t quite sound right—this plugin will undoubtedly come to the rescue!
It is also an excellent tool for enhancing the sense of natural vocal power and projection in a performance, making the vocal sound more present. For that reason, it is particularly well suited to rock vocals and other styles that demand a strong, forward vocal sound.

As a long-standing industry standard, Melodyne is known for its excellent usability and intuitive user interface, making it an essential tool for any vocalist.
Best of all, when requesting a mix, just being able to say “I’ve already done the vocal editing” gives the impression that you’re serious about your work, helping you build trust with the engineer or collaborator.
