Hello! How is your life with percussion instruments?
There are many different types of percussion instruments, including the frame drum, which originated in the Mesopotamian civilization, and the handpan, which was invented in Switzerland in 2000. And even now, many new percussion instruments are being created!
This time, I will introduce the percussion that have been originally created by manufacturers that have been producing a wide range of percussion for a long time, such as LP, Pearl, and Remo!
Tubano
Remo's original percussion, Tubano! Remo is famous for its drumheads, but it also has a wide range of percussion. In particular, I have the impression that there are many products that make use of the technology of head production and that are particular about the environment and materials.
Tubano is a membrane instrument that combines the characteristics of the conga and djembe! It uses a shell made of brightly colored kente cloth, a traditional African fabric, and a new skin head made by Remo. When I actually played it, it had a good sound and produced a warm, resonant sound. It's also great that you can just put it on the floor without a stand!
Pandanza
Pandanza from Pearl! This unique instrument, with its unique name and shape, is a pandeiro equipped with agogo bells! It is perfect for Brazilian music, as well as acoustic live performances!
Vibraslap
LP (Latin Percussion) / Vibraslap Standard
The vibraslap is a musical instrument with a dry tone and a strong impact. In 2024, it was featured in a certain shonen manga, so you may have seen it before.
Originally, it was developed by LP and patented. It is said to have been created based on the Cuban instrument, the quijada.
We hear it in a lot of songs, but the song that I recently listened to that really left a strong impression of the vibraslap was MISIA's “Tsutsumikomu Yoni...”. I counted and heard it about 80 times in the song... I can't believe it's possible to make the sound of the vibraslap sound so natural...!

Bahia Bass Drum
Remo / BH-0016-A1 Bahia Bass Drum
Bahia Bass Drum from Remo which uses an Acousticon shell! The vinyl head is not easily affected by its environment, and has been used in many educational settings and music therapy. Because of its simple structure, there are no rules for how to play it, and I think that one of its strengths is that you can develop new playing techniques in your own way. There is a gap between the floor and the instrument, so you can make the sound resonate well. It is lightweight and has a handle, so it is easy to carry around.
Shakelets
PEARL's Shakelets are shakers that you can wear on your wrists or ankles and play with!
When you think of things you can attach to your wrists, you think of things like sleigh bells, but there are also shaker types!
If you use them with instruments that you play with your hands, such as cajon, bongo, or conga, they will add a nice accent to your usual rhythm patterns! They come in a pair in two colors: red and blue.
I have introduced some original percussion created by a long-established percussion manufacturer. It is romantic to think that percussion, which are so common now, each have their own background and are enjoyed by people all over the world using various playing styles! I can't take my eyes off the percussion that is still being born! Please check out the ones that interest you!
