Now that the weather has finally cooled down, for this post, I would like to share some hot sandwich recipes.
Sound House also sells hot sandwich pans, so definitely try out these recipes if you’re interested!
Here are some hot sandwich pans you can buy at Sound House↓
The handle is detachable for easy carrying and compact storage.
This is a half-sized hot sandwich pan that allows you to make hot sandwiches with a single slice of bread. Recommended for people who want to make different kinds of hot sandwiches and for people who live alone.
LOGOS / Snoopy Hot Sandwich Pan (Half)
Hot sandwiches can be delicious no matter what you put inside them, but here are some recipes I recommend that I have made/eaten so far! I’m using recipes that use regular old sandwich bread sold everywhere in Japan cut into 8 slices. The amount of each ingredient is however you like it. You will know how much of each ingredient you like after trying out these recipes a few times.
■ Nori + Perilla + Whitebait + Cheese
Layer chopped nori, perilla shreds, boiled whitebait, and cheese between buttered bread and grill it in the hot sandwich pan. The key is to balance your sandwich makings well and not to add too much.
■ Canned Mackerel + Onion + Mayonnaise
Drain the brine from the can and flake the mackerel. Add chopped onions, mayonnaise, salt and pepper, and a pinch of grated garlic (optional) into the flaked mackerel, and mix well. Add the mix between bread and grill the sandwich in the hot sandwich pan.
If you are cooking at home, you can lightly microwave the chopped onions. If you are cooking outdoors, chop the onion well but don’t add too much to the sandwich, and grill it thoroughly and slowly. If you don’t like canned mackerel, you can use canned tuna instead.
■ Pumpkin Salad from the Deli
Just make a pumpkin salad that you can buy at the supermarket or convenience store into a sandwich and grill it. It’s so delicious! Add raisins or honey if you like. Adding cheese is also quite delicious.
■ Tomato + Cheese + Basil
This definitely is a must-try recipe. Ingredients are sliced tomatoes, cheese (preferably mozzarella), and fresh or dried basil. Add salt, pepper, and a little olive oil, and grill the sandwich in the hot sandwich pan. It can be called a margherita sandwich.
■ Sausage + Shredded Cabbage + Spicy Miso + Mayonnaise
Add spicy miso and mayonnaise to your favorite sausage and shredded cabbage. Spicy miso can be gochujang or minced meat seasoned with miso. Spicy miso elevates the taste that adults would like more than just using ketchup.
■ Canned Yakitori with Tare Sauce + Cheese + Lettuce
Layer canned yakitori, torn lettuce, and cheese between the bread and grill it. Add mayo if you want. It is a tasty teriyaki style sandwich.
■ Red Bean Paste + Butter
This combination is my guilty pleasure. Delicious food is always made of sugar and fat.
■ Blueberry Jam + Cheese
Add blueberry jam and cheese to make a sandwich, and grill it. The balance of sour, salty, and sweet is excellent.
■ Other
- 7-Eleven hamburger (Just flatten it and grill it)
- Steamed meat bun + sesame oil (Grill the meat bun with sesame oil in the hot sandwich pan)
- Red bean bun + butter (Grill the bun as is and finish it with butter)
- Rice dango with sweet soy sauce glaze + sliced pork belly + salt & pepper (Wrap pork belly around the dumpling and cook with salt and pepper)
- Pancakes (Use a hot sandwich pan instead of a frying pan. The sandwich pan makes pancakes crispy outside and fluffy inside)
- Rice burger style sandwich instead of using bread (Make a sandwich using your favorite ingredients with rice and grill it with a little oil)
There are many other hot sandwich recipes out there, so please try searching around for some. I recommend using the hot sandwich pan to make snacks, desserts, and just make any kind of sandwich you can think of and grill it.
That’s all, folks!
