My Style: DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro Debut! Filming a Fun Yet Embarrassing Live Performance Commemoration Video with the Osmo Action 5 Pro

Theme:Interesting Products, Events & Concerts

To all of my cherished readers: I am Masayuki Ichihara, an employee in the sales department at Sound House and the leader of the slightly niche UK rock cover band formed within the company, Teradai Dolls. I apologize for just oozing sex appeal.
Our band, Teradai Dolls, has been performing every month for three years during the COVID-19 period on the live streaming event Otoya Live, which was held on the stage within the Sound House office. 2025 marks the fifth anniversary since our first live streaming appearance of our performance at a festival at a shrine in Narita in April and at a music event in a hall in Narita in November, expanding our performances beyond internal streams and parties. Furthermore, for 2026, we already have one outside performance scheduled, and this perpetually dark history of our band is now entering a new phase of activity.

On November 19, 2025, we performed at a music event held as part of the Narita City Cultural Festival at Nagomi no Komeya Sky Town Hall in the Narita City Culture and Arts Center.

The regular members of this band are myself, Ichihara, on bass and vocals; M from logistics on guitar, vocals, and chorus; and N from sales on drums—a three-member trio. As mentioned before, our streaming live performances often featured guest players joining midway through the show. Some participants expressed an interest in taking a commemorative video, so we looked for a camera that would be: small enough not to be a burden on the day, able to be placed somewhere on stage, and capable of shooting in high quality. That’s when we chose the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro!

It was incredibly compact right out of the box!

Even with the included adapter attached, it fits in the small pocket of a bass gig bag! I carried it in a small pouch to protect the lens from scratches.

After charging the camera via USB, I turned on the power, and a camera icon or a video camera icon appeared in the lower-left corner of the screen.

By touching the icon, you can use touch-and-slide to choose between still photos or video.

This time, I selected video, and by pressing the red circular shutter button at the top, recording started! It’s that simple!

I quickly covered the camera with the included Osmo Action protective frame, attached a screw to the curve base, and mounted it on the camera! After that, it was just a matter of finding a place to set it for the live show.

Many performing groups appeared on the day, and we also enjoyed taking videos and photos of the hall before we went on stage.

For the main performance, we borrowed a music stand at the venue, placed the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro on it, and set it at the side of the stage. I had placed it in a rush and thought, “Oh no! I put it right in front of the huge speakers in the hall! Ah!”

I worried that if the sound got distorted, my reputation as the president would be completely ruined, but I took a deep breath, relaxed, and started to perform. After 30 minutes and five songs, we went to a private room in the hall’s restaurant to check the video.

And… wow! The sound wasn’t distorted at all! Even though it had been blasting right in front of the speakers, the built-in mic of the camera captured everything perfectly. The quality was surprisingly high in both audio and video. It was almost too good for our little band. Since it was a private room, all the members gathered around to watch. I connected the camera to a laptop via the USB-C port and we immediately got excited checking it out!

For the first song, the three of us appeared alone and played McGough & McGear’s “So Much.” It’s a slightly intense yet melodic psychedelic pop number that even Jimi Hendrix participated in on guitar. Thanks not only to the skill of the sound engineer, but also to the balance of the live performance, the drums sounded raw and lively, and the bass, guitar, and vocals were perfectly aligned.

After I, as the leader, introduced the eternally 29-year-old members of Teradai Dolls, a female keyboardist & chorus member joined us. Guitarist M, who greatly admires George Harrison, sang Harrison’s “Wah Wah” himself. Even M’s thin voice was captured clearly without distortion. It was astonishing how well the audio picked him up, making it hard to believe the camera was placed right in front of the speakers. The Hammond organ sound from the keyboardist also came through groovy and vibrant. It made me wonder, “Was it really this hot during practice?” The sound engineer had done a great job with the PA, and the camera faithfully captured that high-quality sound. Since the audio was recorded directly via the camera’s high-performance built-in microphone rather than a line input, the members were really happy with the realism and presence of the sound, almost as if they were hearing it from the audience’s perspective.

Next up was our company’s precious male violinist, T. The camera even clearly captured the audience’s laughter in response to my playful teasing of T on stage—every chuckle came through perfectly! The song he performed was Velvet Underground’s “Sunday Morning”. The electric violin’s rich, full-bodied tone resonated even more beautifully than it did on stage, giving the song a deeply expressive quality. Watching it on playback from the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro confirmed just how good it sounded—I’m definitely glad we brought it! Staying in the lyrical vein but moving to a slightly more colorful piece, the Rolling Stones’ “She’s A Rainbow” was elevated even further thanks to the camera’s high image and audio quality. It’s unfortunate that a blog can’t fully capture this. The piano intro, wrapped in the warm tone of the electric violin, has a truly soothing effect! The beauty of the lighting also came through perfectly, thanks to the camera’s impressive fidelity.

Finally, we took the liberty of performing The Who’s classic “Baba O’Riley”. The mix of sound from the drum speakers and the live acoustics added a raw texture to the song, and the hand-played (!) synth loop captured the hall’s natural resonance perfectly. The final violin solo was a luxurious touch unique to our in-house band (the original Who usually has the vocalist play a harmonica solo instead of a violin in live performances), and it recorded beautifully with the guitar’s cutting rhythm coming through wonderfully.

The sheer joy of recording a live performance in high-quality audio and video, then watching it together with all the members at a fantastic restaurant afterward—this was the real thrill! The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro is definitely indispensable for our next live show…

Postscript: Please note that our band does not have an official fan club. Thank you for your understanding.
