This time, I want to introduce a band that I highly recommend! The band is called "THE SIXTH LIE," a four-member electro-rock band formed in 2015. The name originates from a famous quote by Claude Achille Debussy: *"Art is the most beautiful lie."* With this in mind, the band chose the name to reflect their desire to create a beautiful lie that transcends the five senses and can't be explained with words.
Their song "Hibana" was selected as the ending theme for the first season of the TV anime *Golden Kamuy* in 2018.
The vocalist, Arata, has an impressive three-octave vocal range, characterized by a clear and transparent tone. Their music blends modern electro sounds with a powerful presence of deep bass, which, as a fan of loud rock, I find irresistible.
At first, I thought they might be a visual kei band, but after listening, I was surprised to discover they belonged to a completely different genre. Arata’s vocal style, with its unique quirks, reminds me of L'Arc~en~Ciel, which seems to be one of his influences. This distinctive style only adds to their charm and sets them apart even more.
I also came across some YouTube videos where they cover songs by LINKIN PARK and Bring Me the Horizon, which made me realize why their music resonates so much with my own tastes! (Haha)
The band's guitarist, Reiji, who is in charge of composing, was influenced by his older brother to listen to LINKIN PARK, and it seems this has played a significant role in shaping their current musical style.
The song that got me hooked on their music was "LEVEL," a collaboration with Yanaginagi. Anime fans are likely familiar with her, as she has an outstanding voice, known for being one of the clearest and most beautiful among female artists. Her voice pairs perfectly with Arata’s, and the track itself has a bright, pop-like tone, which is quite different from their usual sound.
One of Arata's strengths as a vocalist is his ability to adapt his voice and vocal style to fit different songs. His refined technique allows him to alter his tone and delivery depending on the track, a skill built on a solid foundation of vocal training.

Not only from their recordings, but also from their live performances, one thing that stands out to me is how incredibly stable Arata's voice is. It’s impressive how consistently he hits high notes without any noticeable difference between the studio version and live performance. His sound is always clear and direct. Additionally, the balance between his vocals and the instrumentals is well-managed; his voice never gets overpowered by the band. It’s as clear as if it were perfectly mixed, with no strain in his throat whatsoever. His vocal technique easily holds up against other high-tone vocalists like ONE OK ROCK and UVERworld.
Personally, I’m excited not only for their current music but also to see if Arata will push his vocal lines toward even more powerful, louder performances. I’ll be eagerly following their future progress!
