Buying the Osmo Pocket by DJI!

I used SONY’s digital mirrorless camera “α6400” to film my children privately, but as they grew, I increasingly felt the urge to “capture these fleeting moments on video!” While the α6400 does support video recording, switching between lenses and carrying the gear around became quite a hassle. Smartphones can certainly record high-quality videos, but using them for filming means I lose access to communication, which is inconvenient.
After submitting a request to our household’s former Ministry of Finance (now: Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), I finally received approval to purchase this product:

DJI / DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

I had seen this product featured on YouTube and was really curious about it. DJI is a brand that became famous for its drones, and the Osmo Pocket series applies the gimbal technology developed for those drone cameras to create an easy-to-use, compact device.
The model I purchased this time is the latest one: the Osmo Pocket 3.
If the budget had allowed it, I would’ve loved to have gotten the Creator Combo, but that didn’t pass the family finance committee, so I went with just the standalone model. I’ll slowly save up my allowance and add accessories bit by bit (´；ω；`)ｳｩｩ

Here’s why I was so excited to receive it when it finally arrived!

The box was more compact than I expected. Holding it, I thought, "Is it really in here?"—but then I felt a reassuring weight. "Ah! It is in there!" That moment brought on my excitement like a kid waiting to open a present on Christmas Day.

Now, for this purchase, I also picked up a couple of necessary extras. What I got: a microSD card and DJI Care Refresh (2-Year Plan).

Due to a limited budget, I decided on a SAMSUNG 128GB SD card after doing some research and it was super cheap. Once I save up a bit more, I would like to buy the manufacturer-recommended Kingston Canvas React Plus 256GB UHS-II.
The DJI Care Refresh (2-Year Plan) costs 7,700 yen, but it's essential—it covers water damage or collisions and allows you to replace the product for a low fee (under 5,000 yen), with free shipping included.

When I opened the box with my heart pounding, here’s what I found inside: the main unit, a protective cover, a handle, a strap, and a Type-C to Type-C cable. Everything you basically need was packed in tightly.

Along with the contents, there was also a manual written in English and other languages.

I opened the bag and took it out, and there it was! The very same device I had seen on YouTube. I immediately applied a protective film to the display to prevent any scratches.

I got so excited from this point that I forgot to take photos, but when powering it on for the first time, you're prompted to select a language. Naturally, I chose Japanese. After that, you scan the QR code shown on the screen, then use the dedicated app "DJI Mimo" to activate the device and update the firmware. During the activation process, you'll also be asked about the warranty. If you've purchased the camera, you can enter the activation code from the warranty card to register.

After inserting the microSD card, it’s ready to shoot! I was all set to go start filming… but the weather turned out to be terrible with heavy rain and strong winds. Since the Osmo Pocket 3 isn’t waterproof, I had to postpone filming. Maybe this is when having an Osmo Action would come in handy?
