Keyboard players have to be careful when moving their keyboards. It’s also common for players to put their keyboards in a case to protect them from dust.
We often get questions from customers who ask us, “What types of keyboards do you have?” and “Will my keyboard fit in it?”
So this time, I’m going to show you how to choose a keyboard case and tell you about some best-selling keyboard cases!!
What is important when choosing a keyboard case?
Here are some important things to think about when choosing a keyboard case
- The type of case
- The right size for your keyboard
- Portability and organizational pockets
I listed these points in order of importance. Let’s focus on each point!
The Type of Case
There are mainly two types of keyboard cases.
- Soft Case
- Hard Case
Let’s take a look at the advantages of each type of case.
As the name suggests, the soft case has excellent cushioning. If you usually transport your keyboard by train🚃 or on foot🚶, it is better to choose a case with a shoulder strap. It’s even better if the strap is detachable✨ Soft cases often come with stage pianos and synthesizers. It is relatively inexpensive due to its nature, but it can be vulnerable to external impact and burden, so handle it with care.
Hard cases have a very durable material on the outside. Add the weight of the keyboard in it, and it will make for quite a heavy case that you will have to carry, but you can feel rest-assured that your precious keyboard is safe. Hard cases are recommended for those who often transport their keyboards by car🚙 and for those who are confident in their muscles. Many hard cases are waterproof and dustproof, so you may want to choose a hard case if you value the safety of your keyboard.
The Right Size for Your Keyboard
If your keyboard doesn’t fit in the case, it will be a big waste of money. Check the size of your keyboard before you purchase a case.
First, check the manual of your keyboard, or the manufacturer’s page if you have lost it! Write down the outer dimensions of your keyboard which should be written in the specifications.
Next, check the inner dimensions of the case. The product page of the keyboard case sold at Sound House provides the inner dimension. *Be aware that the inner dimensions of some cases are not written on the webpage..
Make sure that: the outer dimensions of the keyboard < the inner dimensions of the case
If the keyboard is larger than the inner dimensions of the case, then the keyboard will not fit in the case. Some cases come with pads to make small adjustments if your keyboard is a little on the smaller end. However, if you squeeze the keyboard that is too large into the case, it will be difficult to keep taking your keyboard in and out of the case. The tight fit may also damage the keyboard and case, so please be careful.

Portability and Organizational Pockets
As mentioned previously in this article, there is a big difference in portability between soft cases and hard cases. It is best to consider based on your main transportation and travel time.
Also, storing sheet music and cables is a very important thing for keyboardists. You might’ve got a bitter memory where you forgot to bring the cables and you were looked at like “why didn’t you bring them?” If you have a case with big pockets, you can put a thick music book, the sustain pedal, the power adapter, some snacks to have a break with and so on, and you’re always ready to go!
