Trying Out the AKG DMS300 Wireless System for Guitar and Bass - Easy for Beginners to Use

Theme:Guitars

Today, I’d like to talk about the wireless system that every guitar/bass player has probably dreamed of using at least once. I, too, once fantasized about freely moving around the stage while playing.
So, let me share my personal experience with you. If you’re not interested, feel free to scroll down a bit.

Back when I was in high school, I started playing bass, and after some time, I became fascinated by the gear professional players were using. I just had to know what guitars, pedals, amps, and strings they were using. It was a bright, curious time of my youth, full of wonder.
And then one question popped into my head:

“Wait, aren’t these people playing without cables?”

I noticed that professionals and people on TV were running all over the stage or diving into the audience. They seemed way too free!

“I want to do that too!”

Of course, that’s how I felt.
And I’m sure many of you have had that dream too.

So, today I’m introducing the wireless system for guitar and bass!

AKG / DMS300 Instrumental Set

This is a 2.4 GHz wireless system for instruments, featuring simple operation and clear sound quality!

What is wireless?

As the name suggests, ‘wireless’ means without wires. Usually, a bass is connected to an amp via a cable to produce sound (wired), but with a wireless system, sound is transmitted from the bass to the amp without a cable, using a transmitter and receiver.

Transmitter: The device that sends the signal (instrument side, right in the photo)
Receiver: The device that receives the signal (amp side, left in the photo)

If this still doesn’t make sense, I’ll explain the basics of wireless systems along with the product specs, and go over important points beginners need to know to start using them right away!

Key points are...

Frequency: 2.4 GHz band

The 2.4 GHz band offers higher sound quality compared to the 800 MHz band. This model allows up to 8 systems to be used simultaneously in the same area. By preparing the necessary number of transmitters and receivers and setting channels, you can use up to 8 channels in the same area!

Latency: 2.9 ms or less

Latency refers to signal delay. With 2.9 ms or less (0.0029 seconds), it takes 0.0029 seconds for the signal to travel from your instrument to the receiver. This is essentially unnoticeable and provides a smooth, delay-free playing experience!

Here is how to use it!

  • Place the receiver on top of the amp and connect it to the amp.
  • Connect the transmitter to your instrument using the included shield cable.
  • Turn on the transmitter and receiver, and match the channels.
  • Play!

It’s that simple!

As shown in the photo, you can easily check the channel and battery level on the display. It’s designed with simplicity in mind, so even beginners can understand it easily!

My Experience Using It

The sound is incredibly clear, with no noise whatsoever.
As for the sound changes that wireless systems are sometimes criticized for, there was no drastic difference or noticeable tone loss—just a very slight change, if anything.
I also didn’t feel any latency. There was no difference compared to using a cable!
Since it was my first time using a wireless system, I was curious to see how far away I could play. Even when I left the room, far from the amp, the sound kept playing! (Of course, this depends on the environment.)
The transmitter also has a clip, and I attached it to the pocket of my hoodie. It stayed securely in place, even when I moved around a lot.

The best part of the experience is the stress-free freedom it provides. Simply removing the cable makes you feel like you can go wild without worry.
I couldn’t help but reminisce about how much more fun school festivals or live shows could have been if I’d had a wireless system during my middle school, high school, or college days. If you’re still in your youth or deeply immersed in band activities now, I highly recommend trying wireless! Let’s use wireless systems to perform like pros!
