Shayne Magowan of The Pogues, the World's Most Beloved Drunken Poet, Passes Away

    2023/12/01

Shayne McGowan, frontman of the British punk band The Pogues, passed away on November 30, the official page of The Pogues announced. He was 65 years old.
Shayne McGowan, whose parents were Irish, joined the rockabilly-sounding punk band Nipple Erectors before forming The Pogues.

The Pogues' debut album, "Dark Streets of London," was released in 1984 and was welcomed throughout the United Kingdom as a new rock band that mixed the old and new in a punk style with the Celtic folk sounds of their Irish roots music.

While he had standard hits such as "Dream of New York," one of the most popular Christmas songs of the 1980s, Shayne's character was indeed the best in the world, as he sang drunkenly on stage, which was seen at all of his concerts in Japan, and was cheered by the audience even if he sometimes got the lyrics or the part he was singing wrong. Shayne's character was indeed the world's most beloved drunken poet.

We present to you a popular song often performed as the last number at the live shows of The Pogues led by Shayne McGowan, the one and only real punk, and We pray for their soulful rest in peace.
