Hi there!
If you’ve come all the way to check out the Sound House staff blog, you’re probably someone who loves events.
To all you event lovers, I, as a former event technical staff member, would like to quietly share some stories and insights.
For this very first quick entry,
I would like to talk about what technical work actually goes into events!
What is an event staff member?
When you hear the word “staff”, it can mean many things—because a single event involves all kinds of staff members with different roles.
There are people who plan the event, people who manage the schedule, people who build the venue…
In short, many staff members work together to support the event.
So, what does a technical staff member do?
Simply put, they’re the people who shape the event space physically.
What kind of people are they?
When you hear “building the venue”, some of you might not immediately picture what that means.
The work of technical staff can broadly be divided into four categories: stage, lighting, sound, and video.
Professionals from each of these areas come together to create the foundation that captures the hearts of the audience.
● Stage crew
These are the people who build the stage structure, handle set changes, and physically support the stage itself.
They might not be flashy, but without them, nothing can begin.

That big sturdy truss looks great lit by the setting sun!
● Lighting crew
Stage crew don’t just shine lights on the stage; they create the atmosphere of the venue with carefully timed color changes, movements, blackouts, and more.
Those emotional moments during a live show? Most of the time, it’s the lighting staff doing a great job.

Lighting checks are essential.
● Sound staff
They balance the venue’s audio levels, set the mood with background music, and arrange speaker placement so that sound reaches the audience clearly.
They’re the experts in delivering great sound even though you can’t see them control it.
Ease of listening actually depends on incredibly precise adjustments.

They’re always checking the sound from behind the audience!
● Video staff
They handle the visual side and project the stage onto big screens, playing opening videos, and operating cameras for livestreams.
With the rise in streaming events lately, they’re busier than ever!
(Sorry… couldn’t find a cool photo of the video team!)
All of these people bring their own areas of expertise to the table by working behind the scenes to support a single event.
Doesn’t the backstage world start to sound a bit exciting?
By the way…
