[Bonus Edition] From the Camping Rabbit Hole to Car Camping!? Impulse-Buying the Osmo Nano for Easy Vlogging - Unboxing

Ever since I fell down the camping rabbit hole thanks to Sound House, I’ve been enjoying camping whenever I get the chance. More recently, though, I’ve started getting into car camping as well (It’s kind of like a lighter, more spontaneous extension of camping).

After installing a car camping kit in my vehicle, I can quickly transform it from a five-seater into a flat sleeping space. Now I can head out on a whim during a day off and comfortably take breaks—or even spend the night in the car.

Now I’ve got a car to sleep in, so I’d love to explore lots of different places!
If I’m going to all these places, I’d love to document the experience with a vlog!
...But the problem is that pulling out a smartphone or a larger camera every time I want to record feels cumbersome, and honestly, a little embarrassing.

That’s when I came across this:

This might be the perfect camera for documenting camping trips, car camping adventures, and travel in general!?

What Immediately Caught My Attention

Small, Lightweight, and Unobtrusive

• Remove the display module and use only the camera unit, and it becomes incredibly compact (57.3 × 29.5 × 28 mm) and weighs just 52 g.
• There’s no need to set up a large camera and tripod in the limited space of a vehicle. It’s small enough to place almost anywhere without getting in the way.
• With the magnetic necklace or clip, you can record completely hands-free, making it easy to shoot vlogs without looking like you’re obviously filming.

That said, its tiny size and convenience could also lead to misunderstandings. I wouldn’t want anyone to think I’m secretly recording them, so I’ve decided to follow a few personal rules:

• Avoid using it in crowded public places.
• Primarily use it inside my vehicle or at my own campsite.

I plan to stick to these guidelines whenever I use it!

The Standard Combo Is More Than Enough

• The magnetic necklace and clip allow for hands-free recording, so you can stay fully immersed in whatever you’re doing instead of constantly thinking about the camera.
• Using the magnetic ball-joint adapter mount, you can attach the camera to surfaces such as a car window and capture footage from a variety of angles.
• The hat clip isn’t limited to attaching the camera to the brim of a cap—it can also be clipped onto a pet’s collar, which opens up some fun creative possibilities (I have two cats, so I’d love to see the world from their perspective someday!).

The Camera and Display Can Be Used Separately

• When shooting overhead or from a distance, you can place the camera wherever you need it and monitor the footage from the display in your hand.
• The display module also functions as a remote controller, allowing you to operate the camera even when it’s mounted somewhere else. For example, I could attach the camera to one of my cats and still control it remotely.
• Compared to using a smartphone as a monitor through an app, this setup is much more convenient because it leaves your phone free for other tasks at the same time.

Excellent Image Quality Even in Low Light with Super Night Mode

• Being able to capture clean, high-quality footage in dim environments—such as inside a vehicle at night or while relaxing around a campfire at a campsite—is a huge advantage that scores some major points.

Yay! It arrived! I couldn’t wait to open it, so let’s dive right in.

Camera & Protective Case

It’s tiny! The included protective cover is a nice touch, and with waterproof protection up to 10 meters, there’s plenty of peace of mind!
I can already see it being a great companion for activities like SUP (^-^)♪

Multifunctional Vision Dock

The camera can be attached securely to this vision dock with a strong magnetic connection and an additional locking mechanism for extra security.
Simply press the buttons on both sides for an easy release.

Ball-Joint Adapter Mount

The suction cup provides a firm attachment to smooth surfaces. The camera itself connects via both magnetic attachment and a locking clip! Thanks to the ball-joint design, you can easily adjust and lock it at any angle you like♪

Magnetic Strap

The magnetic attachment is much stronger than I expected—it snaps firmly into place!
Based on the videos on the official website, the intended setup seems to be wearing the strap underneath your clothing and attaching the camera on the outside.
That makes a lot of sense, as the fabric is held securely between the two magnetic pieces, helping keep the camera in position without swinging around when you bend over.

Magnetic Hat Clip

This accessory also attaches securely using both magnets and a locking clip.
I’ll be testing its allowable thickness on various objects later on.

Magnetic Strap & Magnetic Hat Clip

Hmm?... There’s something written on the protective film of the strap.
Does this mean that if you attach the hat clip and camera to the strap, you can adjust the vertical angle even when it’s mounted on your clothing?
Oh! Looking closer, it seems there’s a magnetic plate inside the clamping section of the hat clip!!
The fact that these accessories become even more useful when combined makes me want to try all kinds of different setups♪

Additional Accessories I Purchased

• ND Filter—Since the lens has an f/2.8 aperture, this is a must-have for shooting outdoors on sunny days!
• microSD Card—Be sure to check the list of recommended cards. I went with a 128GB card to match the camera’s internal storage.
• Carrying Case—A case that can hold all the accessories is definitely the most convenient option.
• Quick-Release Tripod Adapter—This allows you to use your existing tripods and mounting accessories.
• Screen Protector—Just for peace of mind (^-^)
