Sound House High Gain Project

It has been many years since I, who was initially in charge of a completely different product category, became in charge of the guitar department at Sound House. It seems that Sound House is becoming more and more high-gain oriented these days.

So this time, I would like to take a look at some of the products we carry here at Sound House that specialize in high-gain sound.

1. SOLAR GUITARS / CHUG

SOLAR GUITARS is a guitar brand organized by Ola Englund, guitarist of the death metal band THE HAUNTED. The first effect pedal released by SOLAR GUITARS is this CHUG pedal.

In addition to a 3-band EQ (BASS, MIDDLE, and TREBLE), the CHUG also features DEPTH for adjusting ultra-low frequencies and PRESENCE for adjusting ultra-high frequencies. This allows you to create the strongest metal sounds with a variety of equipment and environments. A noise gate is also included, making it ideal for metal guitarists who want to play riffs with sharpness and a cutting edge.

Because of its compact 1-channel design, it may be easier to use a separate booster when you want to boost the midrange for soloing.
For metal guitar, TS type boosting is the standard, but I recommend clean boost for the metal guitarist!

2. Laney / IRF-LOUDPEDAL

Sound House is the distributor for the British amp brand Laney. The IRF-LOUDPEDAL is a pedal-type guitar amp that combines the sound of the IRONHEART series, which specializes in high-gain, in a compact and lightweight chassis.

It is a 2-channel design with a common EQ, but the VOLUME, GAIN, and sound character can be adjusted on each channel. With boost that can be turned on and off independently, the IRF-LOUDPEDAL can handle everything from driving sounds to high-gain backing and lead.

It can be used as a 60W at 8 ohms amp head connected to a cabinet, as a distortion pedal, or to send a signal directly from the DI out to a PA.

3. Victory Amps / V4 The Kraken Preamp

Victory Amps is a British amp brand also represented by Sound House. Victory Amps is famous for its lineup of compact, high-quality sounding amps used by Guthrie Govan, Richie Kotzen, Rabea Massaad, and others.
Among Victory Amps' lineup, the "Kraken" series specializes in high-gain. The V4 Kraken Preamp is a pedal-type preamp with the same sound.

The V4 Kraken Preamp is a pedal-type preamplifier with the sound of an EC900 x1 and CV4014 x3 for a total of four tubes that produce a high-gain sound that is a true amplifier. The Kraken can be used as a pre-amplifier connected to the return or as a high-gain addition to your existing amp.

4. Victory Amps / V4 Kraken Power Amp TN-HP

The V4 Kraken Power Amp TN-HP is a pedal-type guitar amp that adds a power amp to the V4 of the Kraken Preamp mentioned earlier, with a massive output of 180 watts at 4 ohms.

In addition to the power amp, the V4 Kraken Power Amp TN-HP also features a DI out with a Two Notes cabinet simulator and six different cabinet simulators by Rabea Massaad.
When connected to a PC via USB, the unit can also be preset with sounds created using Two Notes' TORPEDO REMOTE software, a feature that is useful for sending signals directly to a PA as well as for recording.

To be honest, it is not as portable as digital processors such as HELIX or Kemper Stage, but it is romantic enough to be able to carry a high-gain tube amp on your pedalboard! It's romantic, isn't it? It’s a romantic weapon. If you are a metal guitarist who is excited by holy swords and thunder hammers, this is a must-have amp for you.

I've written a lot, but to put it in a nutshell, I recommend the CHUG for those who want to achieve a high-gain sound in a compact size, the Laney for those who want a lightweight high-gain amp, and the Victory Amps for those who are particular about their tube sounds.
