Ki no Oheya - Mirai Kids Eurhythmic Class

Sound House continues to support reconstruction efforts by establishing a distribution center in an abandoned school in Onagawa, Miyagi Prefecture, which was damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

In 2022, Sound House established the Sound House Children's Mirai Foundation.

One of the activities of the Sound House Children's Mirai Foundation is a eurhythmic class at Ki no Oheya Mirai Kids, a nursery school in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. Sound House staff members visit the school every month as instructors and give music classes.

“Eurhythmics” is an activity to nurture children's ability to express themselves by moving their bodies to music. Children are exposed to music through dancing, singing, hand movements, and experiencing musical instruments.

The day I visited Mirai Kids Eurhythmic School, they had a special class to commemorate the first anniversary of the school, so the program was full of fun activities!

After the usual songs and hand games, it was time to play with the musical instruments. Drums such as cajons were brought from the Sound House Onagawa showroom, which was a bit unusual for the children.

After the staff taught the children how to use them, the children began to enjoy playing them freely.

The highlight of this year's event! The challenge of making one-of-a-kind maracas.

Children placed beads in plastic bottles, and they were beautifully decorated with magic markers and stickers. Everyone was absorbed in the maraca-making process.

When they were finished, the children performed with the maracas they had made. Everyone was so excited to wave their maracas with pride!

Afterwards, they made a cake to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Eurhythmic class together using a panel theater made by the staff.
